Procedure for Front Wheel Motor Efficiency Test
NOTE: Over a period of time, a wheel motor can wear
internally. A worn motor may by- pass oil causing t he
motor to beless efficient.Eventually, enough oil losswill
cause the wheel motor to stall under heavy load condi-
tions. Continued operation with a worn, inefficient motor
can generate excessive heat, cause damage to seals
and other components in the hydraulic system and af-
fect overall machine pe rformance.
IMPORTANT: Refer to Traction Circuit Component
Failure in the General Information section for infor-
mation regarding the importance of removing con-
tamination from the traction circuit.
NOTE: This test procedure includes steps to test both
front wheel efficiency together before testing individual
wheel motors.
1. Make sure that traction pedal is adjusted to the neu-
tral position (see Traction Unit Operator’s Manual).
2. Drive machine to an open area. Park machine on a
level surface with the cutting units lowered and disen-
gaged. Make sure engine is off.
3. Read Precautions For Hydraulic Testing in this sec-
tion.
CAUTION
Before opening hydraulic system, operateall hy-
draulic controls to relieve system pressure and
avoid injury from pressurized h ydraulic oil. See
Relieving Hydraulic System Pressure in the Gen-
eral Information section of this chapter.
4. Attacha heavychain tothe rearofthe machineframe
and an immovable object t o prevent the machine from
moving during testing.
5. Chock front wheels to prevent wheel rotation.
