Removal (Fig. 86)
1. Park machine on a level surface, lower cutting
decks, stop engine, apply parking brake and remove
key from the ignition switch.
2. Read the General Precautions for Removing and
Installing Hydraulic System Components at the begin-
ning of the Service and Repairs section of this chapter.
3. To preventcontamination ofhydraulic system during
lift cylinder removal, thoroughly clean exterior of cylin-
der and fittings.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to relieve lift system pres-
sure before removinglift cylinder. See Relieving Hy-
draulic System Pressure in the General Information
section of this chapter.
NOTE: To ease assembly, label all hydraulic hoses to
identify their correct position on the lift cylinder.
4. Disconnect hydraulic hoses from lift cylinder fittings.
Put caps or plugs on fittings and hoses to prevent con-
tamination. Tag hydraulic lines for proper assembly.
5. Remove flange head screw (item 5) and flange nut
(item 3) that secure the pin (item 4) to the lift arm. Re-
move pin from liftarm and cylindershaft clevis whichwill
free lift cylinder from lift arm.
6. Remove cotter pin (item 10) and two (2) flat washers
(item 13) from one end of the clevis pin (item 11). Pull
clevis pin from frame and cylinder barrel clevis.
7. Remove lift cylinder from machine.
8. If hydraulic fittings are to be removed from lift cylin-
der, mark fitting orientation to allow correct assembly.
Remove fittings from cylinder and discard O--rings.
Installation (Fig. 86)
1. If fittings were removed from lift cylinder, lubricate
and place new O--rings onto fittings. Install fittings into
cylinder ports using marks made during the removal
process to properly orientate fittings. Tighten fittings
(see Hydraulic Fitting Installation in the General Infor-
mation section of this chapter).
2. Make sure that cotter pin (item 10) and two (2) flat
washers (item 13) are installed on one end of clevis pin
(item 11).
3. Positioncylinder barrel clevis toframeand insert cle-
vis pin (item 11) into frame and cylinder clevis. Secure
lift pin with two (2) flat washers (item 13) and cotter pin
(item 10).
4. Insert pin (item 4) through lift arm and cylinder shaft
clevis.Securepinto lift armwithflangeheadscrew(item
5) and flange nut (item 3).
5. Remove caps or plugs placed during removal to pre-
vent contamination.
6. Using tags placed during cylinder removal, correctly
attach hydraulic hoses to lift cylinder (see Hydraulic
Hose and Tube Installation in the General Information
section of this chapter).
7. Fill reservoir with new hydraulic fluid as required.
8. Lubricate lift cylinder grease fittings.
9. After assembly is completed, operate lift cylinder to
verify that hydraulic hoses and fittings are not contacted
by any machine components.
