Removal (Fig. 84)
CAUTION
The radiator and oil cooler may be hot. To avoid
possible burns, allow the engine and cooling
systems to cool before working on the oil cooler.
1. Park machine on a level surface, lower cutting
decks, stop engine, apply parking brake and remove
key from the ignition switch.
2. Raise hood to gain access to oil cooler.
3. Read the General Precautions for Removing and
Installing Hydraulic System Components at the begin-
ning of the Service and Repairs section of this chapter.
4. To preventcontamination ofhydraulic system during
oil c ooler removal, thoroughly clean exterior of oil cooler
and hydraulic hoses.
5. Remove oil cooler using Figure 84 as a guide. Use
backup wrench on oil cooler fittings when removing hy-
draulic hoses from fittings. Put caps or plugs on oil cool-
er and hydraulic hose openings to prevent
contamination.
Inspection
1. Backflushoil cooler with cleaning solvent. After cool-
er is clean, make sure all s olvent is drained from the
cooler.
CAUTION
Use eye protection such as goggles when using
compressed air.
2. Dry inside of oil cooler using compressed air in the
opposite direction of the oil flow.
3. Plug both ends of oil cooler. Clean exterior of cooler.
Make sure all fins are clear of dirt and debris.
4. The oil cooler should be free of corrosion, cracked
tubes and excessive pitting of tubes.
Installation (Fig. 84)
1. Remove caps or plugs placed during removal to pre-
vent contamination. Install oil cooler using Figure 84 as
a guide. Use backup wrench on oil cooler fittings when
installing hydraulic hoses to fittings.
2. Fill reservoir with new hydraulic fluid as required.
3. Lower and support hood.
