Adjust Alternator/Fan Belt
Condition and tension of all belts should be checked af-
ter the first 10 hours of operation and every 100 operat-
ing hours thereafter.
1. Park machine on a level surface, lower cutting units,
stop engine, engage parking brake, and remove key
from the ignition switch.
2. Open hood.
3. Check belt tension by depressing belt midway be-
tween the alternator and crankshaft pulleys with 22 lb.
of force (98 N). Belt should deflect 7/16 inch (11 mm). If
deflection is incorrect, proceed to step 4. If correct, con-
tinue operation.
4. Loosen bolt securing brace to engine and bolt secur-
ing alternator to brace.
5. Insert pry bar between alternator and engine. Posi-
tion alternator out from engine to increase belt tension.
