Grooming Reel Mechanical Problems
Problem Possible Causes Correction
The grooming reel rotates when it is
in the raised, transport position (for -
ward rotating groomer drive).
Thegroomingreelshouldrotate
whenever the cutting reel is en-
gaged.
Normal operation.
No rotation of the grooming r eel
(forward rotating groomer drive).
Seized grooming reel or idler bear-
ing(s) in groomer side plate(s).
Broken or damaged drive belt idler
spring.
The groomer drive belt is worn, bro-
ken or damaged.
Identify and replace faulty bear-
ing(s).
Replace idler spring.
If the belt slips, it probably is worn
and must be replaced.
Repair or replace belt if necessary.
A broken or worn belt could be the
result of improper belt routing or
seized bearings in groomer assem-
bly.
No rotation of the grooming r eel
(counter rotating groomer drive).
Handle on groomer cover is rotated
rearward so that groomer drive is
disengaged.
Seized grooming reel or idler bear-
ing(s) in groomer side plate(s).
Broken or damaged drive idler
spring.
Groomer drive gears are worn or
damaged.
Handle needs to be rotated toward
the front of the machine to engage
the groomer drive.
Identify and replace faulty bear-
ing(s).
Replace idler spring.
Inspect groomer drive assembly
and replace damaged drive compo-
nents.
The turf is damaged or has uneven
grooming.
The groomer is set too aggressive-
ly.
The grooming reel blades are bent,
damaged or missing.
The grooming reel shaft is bent or
damaged.
Grooming depth is not equal on
both ends of grooming reel.
Refer to groomer Installation In-
structions for groomer set--up infor-
mation.
Repair or replace blades if neces-
sary.
Replacegroomingreelshaft.
Adjust dept h if necessary. Check
and adjust cutting unit set u p (level
bedknife to reel, level rear roller to
reel, set height--of--cut, etc.).
