Starter Motor Removal (Fig. 9)
1. Parkmachineon alevelsurface, disengage and low-
er cutting units, move functional control lever to neutral
(N), engage parking brake, stop the engine and remove
the key from the ignition switch. Wait for all machine
movement to stop.
CAUTION
The engine, radiator, exhaust system and hy-
draulic system may be hot. To avoid possible in-
jury, allowmachine to coolbefore workingon the
engine.
2. Disconnect battery cables from battery before re-
moving the starter motor. Disconnect negative battery
cable first and positive cable last.
3. Label all wires at starter solenoid for assembly pur-
poses. Disconnect machine wires from starter solenoid
posts.
4. Support starter motorto prevent itfrom shifting orfal-
ling.
5. Remove two(2)cap screwsthatsecurestartermotor
to engine. Remove starter motor from machine.

Engine, SM--E3B Series for information onstarter motor
service procedures.
Starter Motor Installation (Fig. 9)
1. Insert starter motor drive into flywheel plate and bell
housing.
2. Secure starter motor to engine with two (2) cap
screws.
3. Using labels placed during starter removal, connect
machine wires to starter solenoid posts.
4. Connect battery cables to battery. Connect positive
battery cable first and negative cable last.
