Chapter 6: Replacing Assemblies
To remove and replace the motherboard
6–22
7
Disconnect these cables from the motherboard:
• Hard disk motherboard cable W9
• Floppy motherboard cable W7
• Serial port cables W24 and W25
• Parallel port cable W23
• Mouse connector cable W22
Set all cables out of the way.
8
Remove the Torx T15 screw that holds the mouse connector plate to the back panel of
the chassis and remove the mouse connector plate.
9 Remove the 8 Torx T10 screws that secure the motherboard to the chassis.

Removing the Motherboard Torx Screws
10 Remove the motherboard from the chassis by lifting and tilting it over the power supply,
being careful to clear the floppy drive bracket and all remaining cables.
11 To replace the motherboard assembly, reverse the above procedure. Note the
following:
• Replacement motherboards come without a CPU or RAM SIMMs. Transfer these from the old
motherboard using the procedures in this chapter. Be sure to take appropriate antistatic
measures.
• Newer motherboards may require a new CPU and the installation of a Voltage Regulator Module
(VRM). RAM SIMMs may be transferred from the old motherboard.
• The corner of the motherboard underneath the floppy drive bracket fits into a small plastic
bracket attached to the chassis.
• Be sure to observe polarity when reconnecting all the cables.
• Ensure that all jumpers are set correctly on the new motherboard before installation. See “To
configure the motherboard jumpers and set up the BIOS” in chapter 5.
12
Once an upgraded motherboard has been installed, turn on the instrument and run the
WINBIOS setup procedure. See “To configure the motherboard jumpers and set up the
BIOS” in chapter 5.
