Change the Coolant System Filter
The coolant system filter must be changed to ensure
the proper level of DCA4 (dry chemical additive) is
maintained in the engine cooling system to provide
maximum protection against corrosion. To change the
filter, proceed as follows:
Turn the coolant shutoff valve (1) to the “OFF” position.
Remove the radiator cap. Unscrew and discard the
old coolant filter (2). Clean the gasket surface on
the filter head. Apply a light film of lubricating oil to
the gasket sealing surface before installing the new
coolant filter.
NOTE: All model tractors have one single coolant
system filter with a shut off valve mounted on the
right-hand side of the engine.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE RADIATOR CAP
FROM A HOT ENGINE. HOT STEAM WILL CAUSE
SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY. REMOVE THE
COOLANT SYSTEM PRESSURE CAP AND CLOSE
THE SHUTOFF VALVES BEFORE REMOVING THE
COOLANT FILTER. FAILURE TO DO SO CAN RESULT
IN PERSONAL INJURY FROM HEATED COOLANT
SPRAY.
NOTE: Do not allow oil to get inside the filter. Oil will
adversely affect the DCA4.
Install the new filter on the filter head. Tighten the
filter until the gasket contacts the filter head surface.
Tighten the filter an additional 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn.
NOTE: Over-tightening can distort the threads or
damage the filter head. Do not use tools to tighten
the filter.
Turn the coolant shutoff valve to the “ON” position.
Operate the engine, and check for coolant leaks. After
the air has been purged from the system, check the
coolant level again.
