without insulating POS+ (red) battery cable ter-
minal with electrical tape, or sparking from bat-
tery cables can result.
Charging:
When charging the battery disconnect the battery ter-
minals. The battery fitted to the mower is 14 Ah rated,
charge the battery as per the instruction for the
charger you are using (not supplied).
The need for lubrication is minimal as moving parts
run on sealed bearings. The few lublication points 29
are and require lublication a few drops of engine oil
every 2 months.
Changing oil:
Change the oil after 2 hours of use. The oil should
then be changed every 50 hours or at the end of each
season before storage, whichever is sooner.
Change the oil as follows:
Note: The oil will drain more freely if the engine is
warm.
1. Clean area around the rear lower oil drain plug

and remove plug.
2. Screw the oil drain tube 31 assembly.
3. Tip the mower back and drain the oil into a suita-
ble container. Ensure that all the old oil has
drained away.
4. Refit the oil drain plug 30.
5. Clean the area around the oil fill dip stick 6 and re-
move.
6. With the mower on level ground slowly pour a
good quality SAE 30 oil (i. e. SAE 30 API SF), in
small quantities, into the oil filler hole. The correct
level on the dip stick 9. Depending on any residual
of oil in the sump, up to 0,6 litres (1.1 pint) oil will
be required to fill the engine.

Regular maintenace at the recommended service in-
tervals, replacing worn or damaged parts as necessary
and having the mower serviced by an ATCO Ap-
proved Service Agent before winter storage will max-
imize the life and reliability of the mower. Observe
the following before storage:
Clean the mower down thoroughly. Remove any
grass debris especially around the engine cooling fins
(also see engine manual) and the brake shoe.
Check the cutting action (see “Adjusting the Blades”)
and lightly oil the cutting edges.
Check that all nuts and bolts are tight.
Drain off any fuel in the petrol tank by:
Removing the pipe from the carburettor and emp-
tying the fuel into a can.
Run the engine for a few minutes until the engine
stops.
Remove the carburettor bowl by removing nut,
and drain off any fuel in the carburettor. This will
prevent gum (fuel deposits) forming on essential
carburettor parts.
Change the oil and clean the air filter. (Winter storage
only. See engine manual for details).
Recharge the battery once during winter storage (re-
fer to “Battery Maintenance”).
