Fuel Pump (Models 30873 and 30874)
The fuel pump is attached to the air cleaner mount below
the fuel water separator (Fig. 57).
Operational Test
1. Park machine on a level surface, lower cutting
decks, stop engineand apply parking brake. Raisehood
to access fuel pump.
2. Disconnect fuel supply hose from the fuel injection
pump fitting on the engine (Fig. 57). This hose is the fuel
pump discharge.
3. Make sure fuel hoses attached to the fuel pump are
free of obstructions.
4. Place disconnected end of supply hose into a large,
graduated cylinder sufficient enough to collect 1 quart
(0.95 liter).
IMPORTANT: When testing fuel pump output, do
not turn ignition switch to the START position.
5. Collect fuel in the graduated cylinder by turning igni-
tion switch to the ON position. Allow pump to run for fif-
teen (15) seconds, then turn switch to OFF.
6. The amount of fuel collected in the graduated cylin-
der should be approximately 16 fl oz (475 ml) after fif-
teen (15) seconds.
7. Replace fuel pump as necessary.
IMPORTANT: If fuel pump is replaced, make sure
that replacement pump is the correct pump for your
Groundsmaster by using your Parts Catalog. If in-
correct pump is used, fuel system components can
be damaged.
8. Install fuel supply hose to the fuel injection pump fit-
ting on the engine and secure with hose clamp.
9. Prime fuel system (see Fuel System in the Service
and Repairs section of Chapter 3 -- Yanmar Diesel En-
gine).
