4. Jump Starting
Toproperlysharpenthecuttingblades,removeequalamounts
of metalfromboth endsof thebladesalongthe cuttingedges,
parallelto thetrailingedge,at a 250.300angle.Alwaysgrindeach
cuttingbladeedgeequallyto maintainproperbladebalance.See
Figure18.
Neverjump starta damagedor frozenbattery.Becertainthe vehicles
do nottouchandignitionsareoff. Donotallowcableclampsto touch.
Ifthe cuttingedgeof thebladehas previouslybeensharpened,orif
any metalseparationispresent,replacethebladeswithnewones.
A poorlybalancedbladewillcauseexcessivevibration,maycause
damagetothetractorand/or resultinpersonalinjury.

Testtheblade'sbalanceusinga bladebalancer.Grindmetalfrom
the heavysideuntilit balancesevenly.
NOTE:Whenreplacingtheblade,besuretoinstallthe bladewith
the sideofthe blademarked"Bottom"(or witha partnumber
stampedin it) facingthe groundwhenthemoweris inthe operat-
ingposition.
Useatorquewrenchtotightenthe bladespindlehexflangenutto
between70ft-lbs and90ft-lbs.
BATTERY
Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato cause
cancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
If removingthe battery,disconnectthe NEGATIVE(Black)wirefrom
itsterminalfirst,followedby thePOSITIVE(Red)wire.Whenreinstall-
ingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)wireits terminal
first,followedby theNEGATIVE(Black)wire.
1. Connectthe positive(+) cabletopositive(+) postof yourtractor's
dischargedbattery.
2. Connectthe otherendof the cableto thepositive(+) postof the
jumperbattery.
3. Connectthe negative(-) cable tothenegative(-) postof the
jumperbattery.
4. Makethefinalconnectionon the engineblockof thetractor,away
fromthe battery.Attachtoan unpaintedpart to assurea good
connection.
Ifthejumperbatteryis installedona vehicle(i.e.car,truck),do NOT
start thevehicle'senginewhenjumpstartingyourtractor.
5. Startthe tractor(asinstructedin theOperationsectionofthis
manual).
6. Setthetractor'sparkingbrakebeforeremovingthejumpercables.
Removecablesinreverseorderof connection.
Charging
Batteriesgiveoff an explosivegas whilecharging.Chargethe batteryI
in a wellventilatedareaandkeepawayfroman openflameorpilot I
lightason a waterheater,spaceheater,furnace,clothesdryeror I
othergasappliances. ..J
Whenchargingyourtractor'sbattery,use onlya chargerdesignedfor
12Vlead-acidbatteries.Readyourbatterycharger'sOwner'sManual
priorto chargingyourtractor'sbattery.Alwaysfollowitsinstructions
andheeditswarnings.
Ifyourtractorhasnotbeenput intousefor anextendedperiodof time,
chargethebatteryasfollows:
1. Setyourbatterychargerto delivera maxof 10amperes.
2. Ifyour batterychargeris automatic,chargethe batteryuntilthe
chargerindicatesthatchargingis complete.If thechargeris not
automatic,chargefor nofewerthaneighthours.
