Fuel Filter IVluffler
Gasolineand itsvaporsareextremelyflammableandexplosive.Fire
orexplosioncan causesevereburnsor death.
Keepgasolineawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,
andotherignitionsources.
Checkfuellines,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracks
or leaks.Replaceif necessary.Seea Searsor otherqualified
servicedealertoreplacefuelline.
Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthe fueltankor closethe fuel
shut-offvalve.
Replacementpartsmustbethe sameand installedin the same
positionas theoriginalparts.
Iffuel spills,waituntil it evaporatesbeforestartingengine.
To Drainthe Fuel:
1. Locatethe fuelfilter,whichis routedon the leftsideoftheengine
betweenthe fueltankandthecarburetor,andmaybeattachedto
theenginewitha tie strap.
2. Cutthe tiestrap,if present,thenpinchthe in-lineclampon the
fuelfilterwitha pairof pliers.
3. Slidethe clampupthe fuel line.
4. Removethe in-linefuel lineanddrainthe fuel intoanapproved
container.
To Replacethe Fuel Filter:
1. Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthe fueltankor closethe fuel
shut-offvalve.Otherwise,fuel can leakoutandcausea fire or
explosion.
2. Useplierstosqueezetabsonthe clamps,thenslidethe clamps
awayfromthefuelfilter.Twistand pullthefuel linesoff of the fuel
filter.SeeFigure23.

Checkthefuellinesfor cracksor leaks.Replaceif necessary.
Replacethe fuelfilterwithan originalequipmentreplacement
filter.
Securethefuellineswiththe clamps.
Temperatureofmufflerandnearbyengineareasmayexceed150°F
(65°0).Avoidcontactwiththeseareas.
Inspectmufflerperiodically,andreplaceifnecessary.Replacement
partsfor themufflermustbethe sameand installedin the same
positionas theoriginalparts.SeethePartsListmanualincludedwith
thistractor.
Clean Engine
Donotusewaterto clean engineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.
Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundand behindmufflerfreeof anycombustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsair movementaroundengine.
Enginepartsshouldbekeptcleanto reducetheriskof overheat-
ing andignitionofaccumulateddebris.
Carburetor Adjustment
The carburetoronthisengineis notadjustable.
Hydrostatic Transmission
The hydrostatictransmissionis sealedatthefactoryandismainte-
nance-free.The fluidlevelcannotbecheckedandthe fluidcannotbe
changed.
Battery
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto theStateof Californiato cause
cancerand reproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
The batteryissealedand is maintenance-free.Acidlevelscannotbe
checkedandfluidcannotbe added.
Alwayskeepthebatterycablesandterminalscleanandfree of
corrosivebuild-up.
Aftercleaningthebatteryandterminals,applya lightcoatof
petroleumjelly orgreasetobothterminals.
Ifremovingthe batteryforcleaning,disconnecttheNEGATIVE
(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedby the POSITIVE(Red)
wire.Whenre-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE
(Red)wire toits terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE(Black)
wire.Becertainthatthewiresareconnectedto thecorrectterminals;
reversingthemcouldresultinseriousdamageto yourengine's
alternatingsystem.
