SAFETY iNTERLOCK SWITCH ES
Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystemforthe protection
of theoperator.Ifthe interlocksystemshouldevermalfunction,do not
operatethetractor.Contacta Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer.
• The safetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromcrankingor
startingunlesstheparkingbrakeis engaged,andthe PTO(Blade
Engage)handleis inthe disengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewillautomaticallyshutoffif theoperatorleavesthe
seatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
• TheelectricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwill automaticallyshut
off if theoperatorleavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)knobintheengaged(ON) position,regardlessof
whetherthe parkingbrakeisengaged.
• Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition,the
electricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshutoffif
the PTO(BladeEngage)knobis movedintotheengaged(ON)
positionwiththedrivepedalinpositionfor reversetravel.
Do notoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedforyour safetyandprotection.
STARTING THE ENGINE
NOTE: Referto theAssembly& Set-Upsectionof thismanualfor
GasolineandOilfill-up instructions.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintothe ignitionswitchmodule.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)knobinthe disengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethe chokecontrolby movingthe throttle/chokecontrolall
thewayforwardintothechokeposition.
5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwiseto theSTARTposition.After
theenginestarts,releasethekey.Itwill returntothe NORMAL
MOWINGposition.
Do NOTholdthe keyinthe STARTpositionfor longerthan ten
secondsata time.Doingsomaycausedamagetoyourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontrol.
NOTE: DoNOTleavethe chokecontrolon whileoperatingthetractor.
Doingsowillresultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausetheengineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Ifyou strikea foreignobject,stoptheengineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire(s). Thoroughlyinspectthemachinefor anydamage.
Repairthedamagebeforerestartingandoperating.
1. Ifthe bladesare engaged,placethe PTO/BladeEngageknobin
the disengaged(OFF)position.
2. Placethethrottlecontrolnearthe SLOWposition.
3. Turntheignitionkeycounterclockwiseto theSTOPposition.
4. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.
Lightlypressthe brakepedalto releasethe parkingbrake.Movethe
throttleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
1. TotravelFORWARD,slowlypressthe drivepedalforwarduntil
the desiredspeedis achieved.SeeFigure7.

2. TotravelinREVERSE,checkthattheareabehindisclearthen
slowlydepressthereversepedalwiththe ballof yourfoot(NOT
your heel)untilthe desiredspeedisachieved.SeeFigure7.
DoNOTattempttochangethe directionof travelwhenthetractoris
inmotion.Alwaysbringthe tractortoa completestopbeforemoving
fromforwardto reverseor viceversa.
Donotleavetheseatof thetractorwithoutfirst placingthePTO/
BladeEngageknobinthe disengaged(OFF)positionandengaging
the parkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractorunattended,alsoturnthe
engineoff andremovethe ignitionkey.
