CONNECTING THE BATTERY CABLES
Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato cause
cancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSiTiVE(Red)
wire toits terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Toconnectthebatterycables,proceedasfollows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).The negative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(-).
1. Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthe positive(+)battery
terminalandattachthe redcabletothe positivebatteryterminal
(+)withthe bolt andhexnut.See Figure3.

2. Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthe negative(-) battery
terminalandattachtheblackcableto thenegativebattery
terminal(-) withtheboltandhex nut.SeeFigure3.
3. Positionthe redrubberbootoverthepositivebatteryterminalto
helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE: Ifthe batteryis putintoserviceafterthe dateshownontop/
sided battery,chargethe batteryasinstructedinthe Serviceand
Maintenancesectionof this Operator'sManualpriorto operatingthe
tractor.
Setting the Deck Gauge Wheels
Movethe tractoron afirmand levelsurface prderablypavement,and
proceedas follows:
1. Selectthe heightpositionof thecuttingdeckby placingthedeck
liftleverinthe normallydesiredmowingheightsetting(anyofthe
sixdifferentcuttingheightnotchesonthe rightfender).
2. Checkthegaugewheelsfor contactor excessiveclearancewith
the surfacebelow.Thedeckgaugewheelsshouldhavebetween
1A"andY2"clearanceabovethe ground.
Ifthe gaugewheelshaveexcessiveclearanceor contactwiththe
surface,adjustas follows:
a. Raisethe decklift handleto itshighestsetting.
b. Removethe frontandreargaugewheelsby removingthe
locknutsandshoulderscrewswhichsecurethemto the
deck. SeeFigure4.

c. Placethedecklift leverinthe desiredmowingheightsetting.
d. Reinsertthe shoulderscrew(witheachgaugewheel)into
the indexholethatleavesapproximatelyY2"betweenthe
bottomofthewheelandthe pavement.

Checking Tire Pressure
Do notoverinflatetires.Checksidewallof tiresfor maximumpsi.
Equaltire pressureshouldbemaintainedat alltimes.
Thetiresonyour tractormaybeover inflatedfor shippingpurposes.
Reducethetirepressurebeforeoperatingthetractor.Checksidewall
