Keep battery and terminals clean.
Keep battery bolts fight.
Keep smallvent holes open.
Recharge at 6-10 amperes for 1 hour.
NOTE'. The odginal equipment battery on
yourtractor is maintenance tree. Do not
attempt to open or remove caps or covers,
Adding or checking level of electrolyte is
not necessary.
TO CLEAN BATTERY AND TERMINALS
Corrosion and dirt on the battery and
terminals can cause the batteryto "leak"
power.
1. Remove terminal guard.
2. Disconnect BLACK batterycable first
then RED batterycable and remove
batteryfrom tractor.
3. Rinse the battery with plain water and
dry.
4. Clean terminals and battery cable
ends with wire brushuntil bdght.
5. Coat terminalswith grease or petro-
leum jelly.
6. Reinstall battery (See "REPLACING
BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND
ADJUSTMENTS sectionof this
manual).
V-BELTS
Check V-belts for deterioration and wear
after 100 hours of operation and replace
if necessary.The belts are not adjustable.
Replace belts if they begin to slipfrom
wear.
TRANSAXLE COOLING
The transmissionfan and cooling fins
should be kept clean to assure proper
cooling.
Do not attempt toclean fan or transmis-
sion while engine is running or while the
transmissionis hot. To prevent possible
damage to seals, do notuse high
pressure water orsteam toclean
transaxle.
Inspect cooling fan to be sure fan
blades are intact and clean.
Inspect cooling fins for dirt, grass
clippingsand other materials. To
prevent damage to seals, do not use
compressed air or high pressure
sprayer to clean coolingfins.
TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID
The transaxle was sealed at the factory
and fluid maintenance is not required for
the lifeof the transaxle. Should the
transaxle ever leak or requireservicing,
contact your nearest authodzed service
center/department.
ENGINE
LUBRICATION
Only use high qualitydetergent oilrated
with API service classificationSF-SJ.
Select the oil'sSAE viscositygrade
according to your expected operating
temperature.

Change the oil afterevery 50 hours of
operation or at least once a year if the
tractor isnot used for 50 hours inone
year.
Check the crankcase oil level before
startingthe engine and after each eight
(8) hoursof operation. Tighten oilfill cap/
dipsticksecurely each time you check the
oillevel.
TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL
Determine temperature range expected
before oilchange. All oil must meet API
service classificationSF-SJ.
Be sure tractoris on level surface.
Oil will drain more freely when warm.
Catch oil in a suitable container.
1. Remove oil fillcap/dipstick. Be careful
not to allow dirt to enter the engine
when changing oil.
2. Remove cap from end of drainvalve
and installthe drain tube onto the
fitting.
3. Unlock drain valve by pushing upward
slightly and turning counterclockwise.
4. To open, pull down on the drain valve.
5. After oilhas drained completely, close
and lock the drain valve by pushing
upward and turning clockwise untilthe
pin is in the locked positionas shown.
6. Remove the drain tube and replace
the cap onto to the end of the drain
valve,
7, Refill engine with oil through oilfill
dipsticktube. Pour slowly. Do not
overfill. For approximate capadty see
"PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"
section of this manual.
8. Use gauge on oil fillcap/dipstick for
checking level. Insert dipstick intothe
tube and rest the oilfill cap on the
tube. Do notthread the cap ontothe
tube when taking reading. Keep oil
at =FULL" line ondipstick. Tighten cap .
onto the tube securely when finished.
