Attaching the Battery Cables
NOTE:ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos.(+).
Thenegativebatteryterminalis markedNeg.(-).
• Thepositivecable(heavyredwire)is securedto the
positivebatteryterminal(+)witha hexboltandhex
nutat thefactory.Beforeattachingthenegativecable,
removethebatteryby removingthepositivecable
andhold-downstrap.Notethe dateon thesideof the
battery.Ifthebatteryis putinto serviceafterthisdate,
chargethe batteryasinstructedin the Maintaining
YourLawnTractorsectionof this manualpriorto
operatingthetractor.
• Securebatterybackontothe tractorwiththehold-
downstrap.Reattachthepositivecable (heavyred
wire)tothe positivebatteryterminal(+)withthebolt
andnut.Makecertainthattherubberbootcoversthe
terminalto helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
• Removethehex boltandwingnutfromthenegative
cable.
• Removetheblackplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthe
negativebatteryterminalandattachthenegative
cable(heavyblackwire)tothe negativebattery
terminal(-) withthe boltandnut.
• Makecertainthehold-downstrapis in positionover
thebattery,securingit in place.SeeFigure1.
Gas and Oil Fill-up

capacityofeithertwoor threegallons.Donotoverfill.
