Cutting Blades ff
WARNING: Be sure to shut
the engine off, remove ignition
key, disconnect the spark plug
wire(s) and ground against the
engine to prevent unintended
starting before removing the cut-
ting blade(s) for sharpening or
replacement. Protect your hands
by using heavy glovesor a rag to
grasp the cutting blade.
WARNING: Periodically inspect
the blade spindles for cracks or
damage, especially if you strike a
foreign object. Replace immedi-
atdy ifdamaged.
Thebladesmayberemovedasfollows.
1. Removethedeckfrombeneaththetractor,(referto
Cutting DeckRemoval)thengentlyflip thedeck
overtoexposeitsunderside.
2. Placea blockofwoodbetweenthe centerdeckhous-
ingbaffleandthecuttingbladeto act asa stabilizer.

3. Usea 15/16"wrenchtoremovethe hexflangenut
thatsecuresthe bladetothe spindleassembly.See
Figure24.
4. Toproperlysharpenthecuttingblades,removeequal
amountsof metalfrombothendsofthe bladesalong
thecuttingedges,parallelto thetrailingedge,at a
250to300angle.
IMPORTANT:Ifthecuttingedgeof thebladehasalready
beensharpenedtowithin15/8" fromtheedge,or if any
metalseparationis present,replacethebladeswith new
ones.SeeFigure25.
It is importantthateachcuttingbladeedgebeground
equallyto maintainproperbladebalance.
Whenreplacingtheblade,be sureto installtheblade
withthesideof theblademarked"Bottom" (orwith
a part numberstampedinit) facingthe groundwhen
themoweris intheoperatingposition.

iMPORTANT:Usea torquewrenchtotightenthe blade
spindlehexflangenut tobetween70foot-poundsand90
foot-pounds.
Fuses
A fuseisinstalledinyour tractor'swiringharnessto
protectthe tractor'selectricalsystemfromdamage
causedbyexcessiveamperage.
Iftheelectricalsystemdoes notfunction,or your
tractor'senginewillnotcrank,firstcheckto becertain
thatthefusehas notblown.
Itcaneitherbefoundunderthe hoodmountedbehind
thetop ofthedashpanelon the supportbar,or under
theseatmountedto theinsideofthe tractorframe
nexttothe batterytray.
,__ Alwaysuse a fuse with the same
amperage capacity for replace-
ment.
