SAFETY iNTERLOCK SWITCH ES
Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystemfor theprotection
of theoperator.Iftheinterlocksystemshouldevermalfunction,do not
operatethetractor.Contacta Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer.
The safetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromcrankingor
startingunlessthe parkingbrakeis engaged,andthePTO(Blade
Engage)handleis inthedisengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewill automaticallyshutoffif theoperatorleavesthe
seatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
TheelectricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwill automaticallyshut
off if theoperatorleavesthe tractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)knobinthe engaged(ON) position,regardlessof
whethertheparkingbrakeisengaged.
Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition,the
electricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshutoffif
the PTO(BladeEngage)knobis movedintothe engaged(ON)
positionwiththedrive pedalinpositionfor reversetravel.
Do notoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedfor your safetyandprotection.
STARTING THE ENGINE
NOTE: Referto theAssembly& Set-Upsectionof thismanualfor
GasolineandOilfill-upinstructions.
1. Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitchmodule.
2. Placethe PTO(BladeEngage)knobinthe disengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolby movingthethrottle/chokecontrolall
thewayforwardinto thechokeposition.
5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwiseto theSTARTposition.After
theenginestarts,releasethe key.Itwill returntotheNORMAL
MOWINGposition.
Do NOTholdthekeyintheSTARTpositionfor longerthanten
secondsata time.Doingso maycausedamagetoyourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontrol.
NOTE: DoNOTleavethechokecontrolon whileoperatingthetractor.
Doingso will resultina "rich"fuelmixtureandcausethe engineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Ifyou strikea foreignobject,stopthe engineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire(s). Thoroughlyinspectthe machineforanydamage.
Repairthedamagebeforerestartingandoperating.
1. Ifthe bladesare engaged,placethe PTO/BladeEngageknobin
the disengaged(OFF)position.
2. Placethethrottlecontrolnearthe SLOWposition.
3. Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwiseto the STOPposition.
4. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.
Lightlypressthe brakepedalto releasetheparkingbrake.Movethe
throttleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
1. TotravelFORWARD,slowlypressthe drivepedalforwarduntil
the desiredspeed is achieved.SeeFigure7.

2. TotravelinREVERSE,checkthatthe areabehindisclearthen
slowlydepressthe reversepedalwiththe ballof yourfoot(NOT
your heel)untilthe desiredspeedisachieved.SeeFigure7.
DoNOTattemptto changethe directionoftravelwhenthetractoris
inmotion.Alwaysbringthe tractorto a completestopbeforemoving
fromforwardto reverseor viceversa.
Donot leavetheseatof the tractorwithoutfirstplacingthe PTO/
BladeEngageknobinthe disengaged(OFF)positionandengaging
the parkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractorunattended,alsoturn the
engineoff andremovethe ignitionkey.
