If excessiveplayisexperiencedin thesteeringwheel,checkthepivot
barforforward/rearwardmovement.
1. Raisethefrontofthetractorand setitonjack stands,sothefront
wheelsaresuspendedabovetheground.
2. Graspingtheendsofthepivotbar,attempttomoveeachend
oftheaxleforwardand rearwardtocheckforsideplay.There
shouldbeminimalorno sideplay.
3. If thereisno sideplay,lowerthetractortothegroundandhave
thesteeringlinkageinspectedbyyourSearsParts& Service
RepairCenter.Ifthereis sideplay,tightenthepivotbarasfollows:
a. Supportthepivotbar,thenremovethehexlocknutssecur-
ingthetwoshoulderboltsthatpassthroughthepivotbar
bracket,thepivotbar,andframe.RefertoFigure18.

b. Slidea halfinchflatwasher,witha maximumthicknessof
.030inch,ontoeachshoulderbolt.Reinstalltheshoulder
boltsw/washersandfastenwiththetwohexlock nuts.
c. Graduallyandevenlytightenthehexlocknutwhilecontinu-
ingtochecktheforward/rearwardmovementofthepivotbar.
Tightenthelocknutsuntilminimumplay,withoutbindingthe
pivotbar'supanddownmovement,isachieved.
CUTTING DECK REMOVAL
Toremovethecuttingdeck,proceedasfollows:
1. DisengagethePTO(BladeEngage)andengagetheparking
brake.
2. Placethedeckgaugewheelsin theirhighestsetting(lowestdeck
setting).
3. Lowerthedeck bymovingthedecklift leverintothebottomnotch
on therightfender.
4. Lookingatthecuttingdeckfromtheleftsideofthetractor,locate
thedecksupportpinon therearleftsideofthedeck.Referto
Figure19.
5. Pullthedecksupportpinoutwardtoreleasethedeckfromthe
decklift arm.Pivotthesupportpin handledownwardtolockthe
pininthedisengagedposition.RefertoFigure19.

6. Moveto therightsideofthetractorandrepeatthe previousstep
to releasethedeckfromtheRHlift arm.
7. Movethedecklift leverintothetopnotchon therightfenderto
raisedeck liftarmsupandoutoftheway.
8. Carefullyslidethecuttingdeckforwarduntilthefrontdeckhanger
rodcanbe removedfromthe slotsofthehangerbracketatthe
frontofthedeck.
9. ThePTObeltiscapturedinsidethePTOpulleyonthebottomof
theenginebya beltkeeper.Frombeneaththefront/leftsideof
thetractor,locatethehextappingscrewsecuringtheleftsideof
thebeltkeepertothebottomofthetractorframe.
10. Afternotingtheframeholeintowhichrightsideofthebeltkeeper
isinserted,removethehextappingscrewandbeltkeeper.Slide
thePTObeltoffthetractor'sPTOpulley.
11. Whileholdingthefrontdeckhangerrodupwardtoclearthedeck
fronthangerbracket,carefullyslidethedeckoutfromtheright
sideofthetractor.
