California and United States Emission Control Defects Warranty Statement
TheCaliforniaAirResourcesBoard(CARB),U.S.EPAandSearsare pleased
toexplainthe EmissionControlSystemWarrantyonyourmodelyear2000and
latersmalloff-roadengine(SORE).InCalifornia,newsmalloff-roadengines
mustbedesigned,builtand equippedto meettheState'sstringentanti-smog
standards.Elsewhereinthe UnitedStates,newnon-road,spark-ignition
enginescertifiedfor modelyear1997and latermustmeetsimilarstandardsset
forthbythe U.S.EPA.Searsmustwarranttheemissioncontrolsystemonyour
enginefor the periodsoftimelistedbelow,providedtherehasbeenno abuse,
neglector impropermaintenanceofyoursmalloff-roadengine.Youremis-
sioncontrolsystemincludespartssuchasthecarburetor,aircleaner,ignition
system,mufflerand catalyticconverter.Alsoincludedmaybeconnectorsand
otheremissionrelatedassemblies.Wherea warrantableconditionexists,Sears
will repairyoursmalloff-roadengineatnocosttoyouincludingdiagnosis,parts
and labor.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage
Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrolpartsdefects
fora periodofoneyear,subjecttoprovisionssetforthbelow,Ifanycovered
Owner's Warranty
Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,youareresponsiblefor theperformanceof
therequiredmaintenancelistedinyourOperatingand MaintenanceInstruc-
tions.Searsrecommendsthatyouretainallyourreceiptscoveringmaintenance
onyoursmalloff-roadengine,butSearscannotdenywarrantysolelyforthe
lackofreceiptsorfor yourfailuretoensuretheperformanceofallscheduled
maintenance.Asthe smalloff-roadengineowner,youshouldhoweverbe
awarethat Searsmaydenyyouwarrantycoverageifyoursmalloff-roadengine
ora parthasfaileddueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-
partonyourengineisdefective,the partwillbe repairedor replacedbySears.
Responsibilities
provedmodifications.Youareresponsiblefor presentingyoursmalloff-road
engineto anAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras soonas a problemexists.The
undisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompletedina reasonableamountof
time,notto exceed30 days.Ifyouhaveanyquestionsregardingyourwarranty
rightsand responsibilities,youshouldcontactaSearsServiceRepresentative
at 1--800--469--4663.Theemissionwarrantyisa defectswarranty.Defectsare
judgedon normalengineperformance.Thewarrantyis notrelatedto anin-use
emissiontest.
Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Provisions
ThefollowingarespecificprovisionsrelativetoyourEmissionControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.ItisinadditiontotheSearsenginewarrantyfornon-regulated
enginesfoundin theOperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.
1. WarrantedParts
Coverageunderthiswarrantyextendsonlytothe partslistedbelow(the
emissioncontrolsystemsparts)tothe extentthesepartswerepresenton
theenginepurchased.

2. LengthofCoverage
Searswarrantstothe initialownerand eachsubsequentpurchaserthat
theWarrantedPartsshallbefreefrom defectsin materialsandworkman-
shipwhichcausedthe failureofthe WarrantedPartsfor a periodofone
yearfromthe datethe engineis deliveredto a retailpurchaser.
3. NoCharge
Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill beperformedatno
chargetothe owner,includingdiagnosticlaborwhichleadstothe
determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,ifthe diagnosticworkis
performedatanAuthorizedSearsServiceDealer.Foremissionswarranty
servicecontactyournearestAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeraslistedin
the "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn
Mowers,"or similarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshallbefiledin accordancewiththe provisionsofthe
SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor
failuresofWarrantedPartswhicharenot originalSearspartsor because
ofabuse,neglector impropermaintenanceassetforth intheSears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsis notliabletocoverfailuresofWarranted
Partscausedby the useof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
AnyWarrantedPartwhichis notscheduledfor replacementas required
maintenanceor whichisscheduledonlyfor regularinspectionto the effect
of"repairor replaceas necessary"shallbewarrantedastodefectsfor the
warrantyperiod.AnyWarrantedPartwhichisscheduledfor replacement
asrequiredmaintenanceshallbewarrantedasto defectsonlyfor the
periodoftime uptothe firstscheduledreplacementforthat part.Any
replacementpartthatisequivalentin performanceand durabilitymay
be usedin theperformanceofanymaintenanceor repairs.Theowneris
responsibleforthe performanceofall requiredmaintenance,as definedin
the SearsOperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextendtothefailureofanyenginecomponents
causedbythefailureof anyWarrantedPartstillunderwarranty.
