Change Engine Oil
,, Onlyusehighqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPIservice
classificationSF,SG,or SH.Selecttheoil'sSAEviscositygrade
accordingtothe expectedoperatingtemperature.Referto opera-
tionsectionforviscositychart.
,, Changeengineoil afterthefirstfivetoeighthoursof operation,
andeveryfifty hoursoreveryseasonthereafter.Changeoil every
twentyfivehourswhenoperatingengineunderheavyloador in
hightemperatures.
To Drain Oil
1. Drainthe fuelfromthetankby runningtheengineuntilthefuel
tankis empty.
2. WithengineOFFbutstill warm,disconnectsparkplugwireand
keepitawayfromsparkplug.
3. Removesquareoildrainpluglocatedatthe baseof theengine,
anddrainoil intoanappropriatereceptacle.SeeFigure13.
Usedoil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoilproperly.
Donotdiscardwith householdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthori-
tiesor SearsServiceCenterforsafedisposal/recyclingfacilities.
4. Replaceand tightentheoil drainplug.
5. Whenengineisdrainedofalloil, placeenginelevel.Refillwith
approximately20 oz.offreshoil.FilltoFULLlineondipstick.Do
notoverfill.RefertoGasAndOilFill-UpinOPERATIONsection.
6. Replaceoil filldipstickandtighten.
7. Replacesparkplugwirebeforestarting.
Temperatureof mufflerandnearbyareasmayexceed150°F (65°0).
Avod theseareas.
Service Muffler
,, Inspectmufflerperiodically,and replaceif necessary.Replace-
mentpartsfor the mufflermustbethe sameandinstalledinthe
samepositionas the originalparts.
Clean Engine
,, Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeofanycombustible
debris.
,, Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
,, Enginepartsshouldbekeptcleantoreducethe riskofoverheat-
ingand ignitionofaccumulateddebris.

LUBRICATION
Hopper Assembly- Lubricatethepivotpointson the hopper
assemblywithlightoil oncea season.
Discharge Chute- Lubricatethepivotpointsonthe discharge
chutewithlightoil oncea season.
ReleaseRod-Lubricatethereleaserodandspringwith lightoil
oncea season.
CLEAN EQUIPMENT
,, Cleanthechippershredderthoroughlyaftereachuse.
,, Washbagperiodicallywithwater.Allowtodry thoroughlyin
shade.
,, Ifthe flail screenbecomesclogged,removeandcleanas
instructedbelow.
NOTE:Cleaningwitha forcefulsprayofwaterisnot recommendedas
