NOTE:A noisewillbe heardwhenfindingthestart ofthe compression
cycle.Thisnoiseis causedbytheflailsandfingers,whicharepart of
theshreddingmechanism,andit shouldbeexpecteduntiltheimpeller
reachesfullspeed.
6. Pullthe ropewitha rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip onthestarterhandle.Letthe roperewindslowly.
7. Repeat,ifnecessary,untilenginestarts.When enginestarts,
movechokecontrolgraduallyawayfromthethrottlecontrol.
8. Ifenginefalters,movechokecontrolbacktowardthethrottle
controlandrepeatsteps5 through7.
9. ALWAYSkeepthe throttlecontrolin theSTART/RUN_11
positionwhenoperatingthechippershredder.
TO STOP ENGINE
1. Movethrottlecontrolleverto slow(turtle)'_ position.
Wheneverpossible,graduallyreduceenginespeedbefore
stoppingengine.
2. Movethrottlecontrolleverto STOPor OFF_ position.
3. Disconnectsparkplugwireandgroundit tothe retainingpostto
preventaccidentalstartingwhiletheequipmentis unattended.
SHREDDING
Yardwastesuchasleavesandpineneedlescanbe placedinthe
hopperforshredding.Aftermaterialhas beenprocessedbythe shred-
derbladeandflails,itwill beforcedoutof thechutedeflector,and,if
attached,intoa debriscollectionbag.
Observethefollowingguidelineswhenshreddingyarddebris:
,, Neverattempttoshredmaterialotherthan normalyarddebris
(leaves,twigs,pinecones,etc.).
,, Avoidshreddingfibrousplantssuchastomatovinesuntiltheyare
thoroughlydriedout. Freshvinesdo not shredwell andtendto
wrapthemselvesaroundthe impellerandflails.
,, Placereasonableamountsof debrisintothehopperat a time.Do
notoverloadthehopper.
,, Allowthematerialinthehoppertobedrawnintothe bladesand
shreddedbeforeaddingadditionaldebristothe hopper.Failureto
dueso mayresultin a cloggedhopper,cloggedchutedeflectoror
a stalledengine.
CHiPPiNG
Branchesupto 3" in diametercanbe fedintothe chipperchute.
Observethefollowingguidelineswhenchippingbranches:
,, Keepbothhandsfirmlyonthebranchasyoufeed itintothe
chipperchute.
,, Neverfeedmorethanonebranchintothechipperchuteat a time.
,, Neverfeedanythingotherthanbranches(orwood)intothe
chipperchute.
,, Applyintermittentpressure(force,inshortpulses)whilefeeding
larger(3-inchdiameter)branchesinto the chipperchute,toavoid
boggingor stallingtheengine.
IMPORTANT:Neverfeed brancheswitha diametergreaterthan
three(3) inchesintothechipperchute.Doingso canresultin serious
damagetoyourunit'schipperblades,flailsorimpeller.
NOTE:Forbestperformance,alwaysoperatetheunitwithsharp
chipperblades.If a noticeablelossin performanceis encountered
whilechippingbranches,the chipperbladesshouldbe replaced.
LOWERING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY
1. Withone handgraspthehandleat the topofthe hopperassem-
blyand liftslightly.
2. Withtheotherhandpulloutonthe releaserodand lowerthe
hopperassemblytothe ground.SeeFigure10.
TO EMPTY BAG
1. Un-clipdrawstringandloosenbagfromchutedeflectoropening.
2. Emptybagandreattachto thedischargechuteopening.Pullon
thedrawstringuntilthe bagistightaroundthechuteopeningand
clipthe drawstringtightagainstthe chutedeflector.
IMPORTANT:The flail screenislocatedinsidethe housingin the
dischargearea.If theflailscreenbecomesclogged,removeand
cleanas instructedinthe Serviceand Maintenancesection.For best
performance,itis also importanttokeepthe chipperbladesharp.
