Immediatelyprepareyourtractorforstor-
age at the end ofthe seasonor ifthe trac-
torwillnotbe usedfor 30 daysor more.
_CAUTION: Neverstorethetractorwith
gasolineinthetankinsidea building
wherefumesmay reachan openflame or
spark. Allowthe engineto coolbefore
storinginanyenclosure.
TRACTOR
Removemowerfrom tractorfor winter
storage.Thiswill allowyoutoclean itthor-
oughly.Removeall dirt,grease, leaves,
etc. Storeina clean, dryarea.
Clean entiretractor(See "CLEANING"
inthe Maintenancesectionofthisman-
ual).
Inspectand replacebelts,if necessary
(See beltreplacementinstructionsinthe
ServiceandAdjustmentssectionofthis
manual).
Lubricateas showninthe Maintenance
sectionofthismanual.
Be surethatall nuts,boltsandscrews
are securelyfastened.Inspectmoving
partsfordamage,breakageandwear.
Replaceif necessary.
Touchup allrustedor chippedpaintsur-
faces; sandlightlybeforepainting.
BATTERY
Fullychargethe batteryforstorage.
After a periodof time instorage,battery
may requirerecharging.
To help preventcorrosionand power
leakageduringlongperiodsofstorage,
batterycablesshouldbe disconnected
and batterycleanedthoroughly(see
=-I0 CLEAN BATTERYAND TERMI-
NALS"inthe Maintenancesectionof
thismanual).
Aftercleaning,leavecablesdisconnect-
ed and placecableswheretheycannot
come incontactwithbatteryterminals.
If batteryis removedfrom tractorfor
storage,donotstorebatterydirectlyon
concreteordampsurfaces.
ENGINE
FUEL SYSTEM
IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent
gum deposits from forming in essential
fuel system parts such as carburetor, fuel
filter, _ose,_or tank duringstorage.
Also, experience indicates that alcohol
blendedfuels(calledgasohoior using
ethanolor methanol)can attractmoisture
whichleadsto separationand formationof
acidsduringstorage.Acidicgas can dam-
age thefuel systemofan enginewhilein
storage.
Drainthe fuel tank.
Startthe engineandlet it run untilthe
fuellinesand carburetorare empty.
Never use engineorcarburetorcleaner
productsin thefueltank orpermanent
damagemay occur.
Use fresh fuel next season.
NOTE: Fuelstabilizeris an acceptable
alternativeinminimizingthe formation of
fuel gumdepositsduringstorage.Add sta-
bilizerto gasolineinfuel tankorstorage
container.Alwaysfollow the mix ratio
found onstabilizercontainer.Run engine
at least 10 minutesafteraddingstabilizer
to allowthestabilizertoreachthe carbure-
tor.Do notdrainthe gastank andcarbure-
torif usingfuel stabilizer.
ENGINE OIL
Drainoil (withenginewarm)and replace
withcleanengineoil. (See "ENGINE"in
the Maintenancesectionofthismanual).
CYLINDERS
Removesparkplug(s).
Pour one ounceof oilthroughspark
plughole(s)intocylinder(s).
Turnignitionkeyto =START"positionfor
a few secondsto distributeoil.
Replace withnew sparkplug(s).
OTHER
Do notstoregasolinefrom one season
to another. ....
Replaceyourgasolinecan if it startsto
rust.Rustand/ordirtinyour gasoline
willcause problems.
If possible,storeyourtractorindoors
and coveritto giveprotectionfrom dust
anddirt.
Coveryourtractorwitha suitablepro-
tectivecoverthat doesnotretainmois-
ture. Do not use plastic.Plasticcannot
breathe,whichallowscondensationto
formand causeyourtractorto rust.
IMPORTANT: Nevercovertractorwhile
engineandexhaustareas arestillwarm.
