The averagelawnshouldbe cutto
approximately2-1/2 inchesduringthe
coolseasonandto over3 inchesduring
hotmonths. For healthierandbetter
lookinglawns,mowoftenandafter
moderategrowth.
For bestcuttingperformance,grass
over6 inchesinheightshouldbe
mowedtwice. Make the firstcutrela-
tivelyhigh;the secondtodesiredheight.
TO OPERATE MOWER
Yourtractorisequippedwithanoperator
presencesensingswitch.Anyattemptby
the operatortoleavetheseat withthe
enginerunningand the attachmentclutch
engagedwill shutoffthe engine.
Select desiredheightof cut.
Lowermowerwithattachmentliftcon-
trol.
Startmowerbladesby engagingattach-
mentclutchcontrol.
to Stopmowerblades- disengage
attachmentclutchcontrol.
,_CAUTION: Do notoperatethe mower
withouteitherthe entiregrasscatcher,on
mowersso equipped,or the discharge
guardin place.

_ OPERATE ON HILLS
CAUTION: Do not drive up or down
hillswith slopes greater than 15° and do
not drive across any slope.
Choose the slowest speed before start-
ing up or down hills.
Avoid stopping or changing speed on
hills.
If slowingis necessary, move throttle
control lever to slower position.
If stopping is absolutely necessary, push
clutcc,h_=l'Vbrakej3_.dalquickly to brake posio
tiona-a-R_reng_e parking bm'ke.
Move gearshift lever to 1stgear. Be
sureyouhave allowedroomfor tractor
to rollslightlyas you restartmovement.
Torestartmovement,slowlyrelease
parkingbrakeandclutch/brakepedal.
Make alltumsslowly.
TO TRANSPORT
Raiseattachmentliftto highestposition
withattachmentliftcontrol.
When pushingor towingyourtractor,be
suregearshiftleveris in neutral(N)
position.
Do notpushor towtractorat morethan
five (5) MPH.
NOTE: Toprotecthoodfromdamage
whentransportingyourtractoron a truck
or a trailer,be surehoodis closedand
securedto tractor. Use an appropriate
meansof tyinghoedtotractor(rope,cord,
etc.).

Towonlythe attachmentsthat are recom-
mendedby andcomplywithspecifications
ofthe manufacturerof yourtractor.Use
commonsensewhentowing.Too heavyot
a load,whileon a slope,is dangerous.

causeyouto losecontrolofyourtractor.
BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL
The engineinyourtractor hasbeen
shipped,from the factory, alreadyfilled
withsummerweightoil.
Checkengineoilwithtractoron level
ground.
Unthreadand removeoilfillcap/dip-
stick;wipeoiloff.Reinsertthedipstick
intothe tubeand restoilfill cap on the
tube. Do notthreadthe cap ontothe
tube. Remove-andreadoil level. If nec-
essary,add oiluntil =FULL_markon
dipstickis reached. Do notoverfill.
Forcoldweatheroperationyoushould
change oilforeasierstarting(See "OIL
VISCOSITY CHART"inthe Customer
Responsibilitiessection of thismanua;).
Tochangeengineoil,see the Customar
Responsibilitiessectioninthismanual.
ADD GASOLINE
Fillfuel tank. Use fresh,clean,regular
unleadedgasolinewitha minimumof8"_
octane. (Useofleadedgasolinewill
