Sprockets
A sprocket should be replaced when the teeth be-
come asymmetric (when the front side of a tooth is
a different shape than the back side of the tooth).
NOTE: Generally; a small sprocket wears faster
than a large sprocket.
Sprocket Wear
Drive Shaft Sprocket Replacement
1. Remove the chain guard cover, auger guard,
and drive chain. Refer to REPLACING/RE-
PAIRING of Drive Chain in this section.
2. Loosen the set screw that fastens the sprocket
to the drive shaft.
3. Slide the sprocket off the drive shaft. Use a pull-
er if necessary.
4. If necessary, clean the end of the drive shaft
with an emery cloth or a wire brush.
5. Place the Woodruff key in the keyway on the
drive shaft.
6. Align the slot in the new sprocket with the Wood-
ruff key and slide the sprocket onto the drive
shaft. Make sure the Woodruff key is in place
between the driveshaft and sprocket.
Remove and Replace Sprocket
7. Position the sprocket on the drive shaft so it is
aligned with the auger sprocket. To check align-
ment, look at the drive shaft sprocket, over the
top of the auger sprocket, from the front of the
snowblower.
