choke provides additional fuel to the engine
during cold starting.
PRIMER BULB
The PRIMER BULB circulates fuel to the car-
buretor to provide quicker starting.
CHAIN BRAKE
The chain brake is a device designed to stop
the chainifkickback occurs . The chain brake
activates automatically in the event of kick-

FUEL REQUIREMENTS
This enginerequires theuse ofminimum 87
octane [R+M]/2 clean gasoline.
IMPORTANT
Useof alcoholblended f uels ( called gasoholor
using ethanol or methanol) can cause major
engine performance and durability problems.
WARNING: Alternative fuels (not
gasoline) such as E--15 (15% alcohol), E--20
(20% alcohol), E--85 (85% alcohol) are NOT
classified as gasoline and are NOT approved
forusein2--stroke gasolineengines. Useofal-
ternativefuelswillcauseproblemssuchas:im-
proper clutch engagements, overheating, va-
por lock, power loss, lubrication deficiency,
deterioration of fuel lines, gaskets and int ernal
carburetor components, etc. Alternative fuels
cause highmoisture absorption into thefuel/oil
mixture leading to oil and fuel separation.
BAR AND CHAIN L UB RICATION
The bar and chain require continuous lubri-
cation. Lubrication is provided by the auto-
matic oiler system when the oiltank is kept
filled. Lack of oil w illquickly ruin the b a rand
chain. Too little oil will cause overheating
shownbysmokecomingfromthechainand/
or discoloration of the bar.
In f reezing weatheroil willthicken, makingit
necessary to thin bar and chain oil with a
smallamount ( 5to10%)of#1Diesel Fuelor
kerosene. Bar and chain oil must be free

for adequate lubrication.
Genuine Poulan bar and chain oil is recom-
mended to protect your unit against e xces-
sive wearfromheat andfriction. Poulan oil
resists high temperature thinning.
If Poulan bar andchain oil is not available,
use a good gr ade SAE 3 0 oil.
