screw. Locate this adjustment before you
begin mounting the bar ontothe saw . See
following illustration.

4. Turn theadjusting screw by handcoun-
terclockwise until the adjusting pin just
touches the stop. This should allow the
pin to benear the correct position.
5. Slide guide bar on bar bolts until guide
bar stops againstclutch drum sprocket.

6. Carefully remove thechainfrom t hepack-
age. Hold chain with the drive links as
shown.

7. Place chain over and behind clutch re-
tainer, fitting the drive links in theclutch
drum sprocket.
8. Fit bottom of drive links between the
teeth in the sprocket in the nose of the
guide bar.
9. Fit chain drive links into bar groove.
10. Pullguidebarfor warduntilchainissnug
in guide bar groove. Ensure all drive
links are in t he bargroove.
11. Now, install clutch cover making sure
theadjustingpinis positionedinthelow -
er holeintheguide bar. Rememberthis
pin moves the bar forward and back-
ward as the screw is turned.

12. Install bar nuts and finger tighten only .
Once the chain is tensioned, you will
need to t ighten barnuts.

(Including units with chain already installed)
WARNING: Wearprotectivegloves
whenhandlingchain. Thechainis sharpand
can cut you even when it is notmoving.
NOTE: When adjusting chain tension,
make sure the bar nuts are finger tightonly.
Attemptingtotensionthechainwhenthebar
nuts are tight can cause damage.
Checking the tension:
Usethescrewdriverend ofthechainadjust-
ment tool (bar tool) to move chain around
guidebar.Ift hechaindoesnotrotate,itistoo
tight. Ifthechainistooloose,itwillsagbelow
the bar.

Adjusting the tension:
Chain tension is very important. Chains
stretch during use. This is especially true
during the first few times you use your saw.
Always check chain tension each time be-
fore you start the chain saw.
1. Loosenbarnutsuntiltheyarefingert ight
against the clutch cover.
2. T urn adjusting screw clockwise untilchain
solidly contacts bottom of guide bar rail.
