CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS
A sharp chain makes wood chips. A dull
chain makes a sawdust powder and cuts
slowly . Se e CHAIN S HARPENING.
CHECK GUIDE B AR
Conditions which require guide bar mainte-
nance:
S Saw cuts to one side or at anangle.
S Saw has to be forced through the cut.
S Inadequate supply of oil t o bar /chain.
Check the condition of guide bar each time
chain is sharpened. A worn guide bar will
damagethechain andm ake cuttingdif ficult.
After each use, ensure ON/STOP switch is
intheSTOP position,then cleanallsawdust
from the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To maintain guide bar:
S MoveON/STOPswitchtoSTOP.
S Loosen and remove bar nuts and clutch
cover . Remove bar andchain from saw .
S Clean the oil holes and bar groove after
each 5 hours of operation.

S Burring of guide bar rails is a normal
process of rail wear . R emove these burrs
with a flat file.
S Whenrailtopisuneven,useaflatfiletore-
store square edges and sides.

Replace guide bar when the groove is worn,
the guide bar is bent or cracked, or when ex-
cess heatingorburringoftherails occurs.Ifre-
placementis n ecessary,useonlythe g uidebar
specified for your saw in the repair parts list or
on the decal located on the chain saw.
CHECK FUEL MIXTURE LEVEL

LUBRICATION

the OPERATION section.
INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND
DECALS
S After each use, inspect complete unit for
loose or damaged parts. Clean th e unitand
decals u sing adamp cloth with a m ild det er-
gent.
S Wipe off unit w ith aclean dry cloth.

CLEAN AIR FILTER
CAUTION:
Donotcleanfilteringasolineor
other flammable solvent to avoid creating a
firehazardorproducingharmfulevaporative
emissions.
Cleaning the air filter:
Adirty airfilterdecreases thelifeandperfor-
manceof t heengineandincreases fuelcon-
sumption and harmful em issions. Always
clean your airfilter after 10tanks of fuel or5
hours of operation, whichever comes first.
Cleanmore fr equentlyindusty conditions.A
used air filter can never be completely
cleaned. Itisadvisabletoreplaceyour airfil-
terwithanewoneafterevery50hoursofop-
eration, or annually, whichever comes first.
1. Loosen 3 screws on cylinder cover.
2. Remove cylinder cover.
3. Remove air filter cover and air filter .
4. Cleantheairfilt erusinghotsoapywater.
Rinsewithcleancoolwater.Airdrycom-
pletely before reinstalling.
5. Reinstall air filter and air filter cover .
6. Reinstall cylinder cover and 3 screws.
Tighten securely.

INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTING SCREEN
As t heunitis used,carbon deposits buildup
on the muffler and spark arresting screen,
andmust berem ovedtoavoidcreating afire
hazard or a ffecting engine performance.
Replacethesparkarrestingscreenifbreaks
occur.
