OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR
PRUNER ATTACHMENT
OPERATING POSITION
ALWAYS WEAR:
Head
Protection
Eye
Protection
Long Pants
Heavy Shoes
DANGER: Do notextendarms above
shoulders while pruning. D o not stand be-
neath branch being cut.
WARNING: Always wearhead, eye,
hearing, foot and body protection to reduce
the risk of injury when operating this unit.
When operating unit, clip shoulder strap onto
clamp, stand as shown and check f or thefol-
lowing:
S Extend yourleftarm andhold assisthandle
with your left hand.
S Holdtriggerhandlewithyourrighthandwith
finger on trigger switch.
S Keep motor end below waist level.
S Keep shoulder strap pad centered onyour
left shoulder and danger sign centered on
your back.
S Maintain full w eight of tool on your left
shoulder.
Always release the trigger switch as soon as
the cut is completed, allowing the motor to
stop. Keep the cord a way from the cutting
area. Position cord so it will not be caught on
branches and the like during cutting.
PRUNING
WARNING: Be alert for and guard
against kickback. Do not allow the moving
chain to contact any other branches or ob-
jects atthe nose of the guide bar when prun -
ing. Allowing such contact canresult in seri-
ous injury.
IMPORTANT POINTS
S Work slowly, keeping both hands firmly
gripped on the p runer. Maintain secure
footing and balance.
S Plancutcarefully.Check directionbranch
will fall.
S W atch o ut for springpoles. Springpoles are
small size limbs which can catch the chain
and whiptoward you orpull you offbalance.
Use extr e me cau t i on wh e n cu t t ing s m al l
size limbs or slender material.
S W atch out for branches i mmediately behind
the branch being pruned. If the chain hits
the rearbranch, damageto theunit may oc-
cur.
S Be alert for springback. Watch out for
branchesthat arebentorunderpressure.
Avoid being struck by the branch or the
pruner when the tension in the wood fi-
bers is released.
S Keepa clearwork area. Frequently clear
branches out of the way to avoid tripping
over them.
S Long branches should be removed in
several pieces.
PRUNING TECHNIQUE
When ready t o cut, squeeze trigger switch
andallowunittoreachfullspeed.Apply alight
cuttingpressure.DO NOTuseback andforth
sawing action.

1. Make the first cut 6 inches (15 cm) from
the tree trunk on the bottom of the limb.
Use t opofguidebar tomakethiscut. Cut
1/3 through the diameter of the limb.
NOTE: When making the second and third
cuts, rest the foot of the pruner against the
tree limbthat isbeing cut to prevent whipping
of the b ranch.

2. Next, m ove 2 -- 4 inches (5 -- 10 cm) far-
ther out on the limb and make a second
cut all the way through the limb.
3. Then,makea finalcutleavinga1 -- 2inch
(2.5 -- 5 cm) collar from the trunk of the
tree to avoid damage to the tree.
