Adjusting Screw
5. Check the tension by lifting the chain
fr om the guide bar. Remove some of
the stiffness in the chai n by pulling
downandlettinggoofthechainsever-
al t i mes.
6. Conti nue turni ng t he adjusting screw
untilthe t ensi on is cor r ect(see st ep 4).
7. T i ghten bar cl amp nut s wit h a wr ench.
8. Recheck chain tension.
WARNING: If the saw is operated
with aloose chain,the chain couldjump
offthe guide barand resultinseriousin-
jury.
CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS
A sharp chain makes woodchips.A dull
chain makes a sawdust powder and cut s
slow ly. See

Conditi ons which r equi r e guide bar main-
tenance:
S Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be for ced thr ough the cut.
S Inadequate supply of oi l to t he bar and
chain.
Check thecondition of the g uide bareach
tim ethe chainis sharpened.A w or nguide
bar wil l damage the cha in and make cut-
ting difficult.
Aft er each use, wi th unit disconnected
frompowersource,cleanallsawdustfro m
the guide bar and sprocket hole.
To ma intain guide bar :
S Disconnectthe chai nsawfrom thepow-
er source.
S Loosen and r emove bar clamp nuts.
Remove bar and chain f r om saw.
S Clean the oil h oles and bar groove after
each 5 hours of operation.

S Burri ng of guide bar rail s is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these
burrs wi th a flat file.

INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND

S Afte reach use,inspect complete unit for
loose or damaged part s. Clean the unit
and labels using a damp cloth with a
mild de ter g en t.
S Wipe of f the unit and l abels wi t h a clean
dry cloth.

CHAIN SH AR PENING
WARNING: Improper chain sharp-
ening techniques and/or dept h gauge
maintenance w i l l increase t he cha nce of
kickbackwhichcanresul tin s eri ousi njur y.
WARNING: Wear protective
gloves when handling chain. The chain
is sharp andcan cutyou even whenit is
not moving.
Conditi ons which indicat e the need for
chain sharpening:
S Reduction in size of wood chips. The
size of the wood chip will decrease as
the chain gets duller until it becomes
more like a powder than a chip. Note
that dead or rotted wood will not pro-
duce a good c hip.
S Saw cuts to one side or at an angle.
S Saw has to be forced through the cut.
