LIMB ING AND PRUN ING
WARNING: Be alert for and guard
againstkickback. Donotallowthemov-
ing chain to contactany other branches
or objects at the nose of the guide bar
when limbing or pruning. Allowing such
contact can result in serious injury.
WARNING: Neverclimbintoatree
to limb or prune. Do not stand on lad-
ders, platforms, a log, or in any position
which c an cause you to lose your b al-
ance or control of the saw.
IMPORTANT POINTS

S Be alert for s pri ng back fr om any
branches that ar e bent or under pr es-

S Frequently clear branches out of the
way to avoid t r i ppi ng over t hem.
LIMBING
S Limb a tr ee only af ter it is cut down.
S Leave the l ar ger limbs underneath the
fell ed tr ee to support the tr ee as you
work.
S Start at the ba se of the felled tr ee a nd
work toward the top, cut t i ng branches
andli m bs.Removesmal llimbs withone
cut.
S Keep tree bet ween you and the chain.

BUCKING
WITHOUT A SUPPORT.
S Always use an overcut t o cut smal land
freel y hanging l i mbs. Undercut t ing
could cause limbs to fall and pi nch the
saw.
PRUNING
WARNING: Limit pruning to limbs
shoulder height or below. Do not cut if
branchesarehigherthanyourshoulder.
Get a professional to do the job.
S Make your first cut
1/3 of the way
through the bottom of the limb. This
cutwillma kethelimbsagso thatitfalls
easily on the second cut.
S Next make a second cut all the way
throug h the limb.
S Finish the pruning operation by using
an overcut so that the stump of the
limb p rotrudes 1 to 2 inches (3--5 cm)
from the trunk of the tree.
