UNIT / MAINTENANCE SAFETY
WARNING: Disconnect the spark
plug befo re performing maintenance except
carburetor adjustments.
S Look for and replace damaged or loose
parts before each use. Look for and repair
fuelleaksbeforeuse. Keepingoodworking
condition.
S Replace trimmer head parts that are
chipped, cr acked, broken, or damaged in
any other way before using the unit.
S M aintain unit accor ding to r eco mmended pro-
cedure s. Keep cutting line at proper length.
S Use only 0.095 inch (2,4 mm) diameter
Poulan/WEED EATER brand replacement
line. Never use wire, rope, string, etc.
S Install required shield properly be fore using
the unit. Use only spe cifi ed trimm er head;
make sureit is properly installed a nd secure ly
fastene d.
S M ake su re unit is assembled correctly as
shown in this manua l.
S M ake carburetor adjust m ents with lower
end supported toprevent line fromcontact-
ing any object.
S Keepothers away when makingcarburetor
adjustments.
S Use only recommended Poula n/ WEED

S Have all maintenance and service not ex-
plained in this manual performed by an au-
thorized service dealer.
FUEL SAFETY
S M ix and pour fuel outdoor s.
S Keep away from spar ks or flames.
S Use a container appr oved for fuel.
S Do notsmoke orallow smokingnear fuelor
the unit.
S Avoid spilling fuel or oil. Wipe up all fuel
spills.
S M ove at l e ast 10 feet (3 meter s) away from
fueling si te before starting engine.
S Stop engine and allow to cool before re-
moving fuel cap.
S Always st ore gasoline in a container ap-
proved for flammable liquids.
CUTTING SAFETY
WARNING: Inspect the area before
each use. Remove objects (rocks, broken
glass, nails, wir e, etc.) which can be thrown
by or becom e entangled in line. Hard objects
can damage the trimmer head and bethrown
causing serious injury .
S Keep others incl uding childre n, animals, by-
stander s,and helpers a t least 50 feet (15 me-
ters) a way. Byst anders shoul d be encour-
aged to wear safety glasse s. Stop engine
immediately if you are approached.
S Use o nly f or trim mi ng, scalpin g, m owing and
swee ping. Do not use for edging, pruning or
hedge trimming.
S Keep firm footing and ba lance. Do not over-
reach.
S Keep all parts ofyour body away fro m m uffler
and sp inning line. Keep engine below waist
level. A h ot muf fler can cause serious burns.
S Cut from yo ur left to your right. Cutting on
right side of the shield will throw debr is away
from the operator .
S Use only in daylight or good artificial light.
S Use only for j o bs explained in this manual.
TRANSPORTING AND STORAGE
S Allowengine tocool beforestoringor trans-
porting in vehicle.
S Empty the fuel tank before storing or trans-
porting theunit.Useupfuelleftinthecarbu-
retor by starting the engineand letting itrun
until it stops.
S Storeunitandfuelin ar e awhere fuelvapors
cannot reach sparks or open flames from
water heaters, electric motors or switches,
furnaces, e tc.
S Store unit so line limiter blade cannot acci-
dentally cause injury. The unit can be hung
by the shaft.
S Store unit ou t of r each of children.

through prolonged use o f gasoline pow ered

tion engines be equipped with a spark a rresting

maintaining the operating condition of these

For normal homeowner use, th e m uffler and
spark a rresting screen will not require any ser-
vice. After 50 hours of use, we recomm end that
your muffler be servi ced or replaced by an au-
thorized service dealer.
