CONFIGURING YOUR UNIT
You can configure your unit using a cutting head
for gra ss and li ght weed s, or a weed blade for
cutt ing grass, weeds, and brush up to 1/2 inch
(1 cm ) in diameter. To assemble your unit, go to
the section for the desired config uration andfo l-
low the instr uct ions.

NOTE:Re move the b lade andmetal shieldbe-
fore attaching the plast ic shield and trimmer
hea d. To remove blade, align hole in the dust
cup with the holein thesideof the gear box by
rotating the blade. Inserta small s crewdrive r
into alignedholes. Th is will keepth eshaftfrom
turning while loosening t he blade nut. Re move
blade nut b y turning clockwise . Remove the
screwdrive r . Remove both washers and blade.
To remove m etal shield, loosen and re move the
four mounti ng screws. See ATT ACHING THE
MET AL SHIELD and INSTALLA TION OF THE
MET AL BLADE f or ill ustr ations. Be s ure to store
all parts and inst ruct ions for futur e use.
ATTACHING THE PLASTIC SHIELD
ANDTRIMMERHEAD
WARNING: The shieldmust beprop-
erly installed. The shield provides partial
protectiontothe operator andothers from the
risk of thrown objects, and is equipped with a
line limiterblade whichcuts excess line to the
proper length. The line limiter blade (on un-
derside of shield) is sharp and can cut you.
1. Remove wing nut from shield.
2. Insert bracket into slot on shield.
3. Pivot shielduntil boltpasses throughhole
in bracket.
4. Tighten the wing nut securely.
NOTE: If your unit has a plastic cover over
the threads onthe t hreadedshaft,removethe
cove ringto expose thethreads.Before ins tal-
ling thetrimmer head,make surethe dust cup
and retaining w asher are pos itioned on t he
gearbox as shown below.

NOTE: Make su re all parts are properly
installed as shown in the illustration b efore
installing the trimmer head.
5. Align hole in the dust cup with the hole in
the side of the gearbox by rotating t he
dust cup.
6. Insert a small screwdriver into aligned
holes. This will keep the shaft from turn-
ing while tightening trimmer head.

7. While holding thescrewdriver in position,
thread trimmer head onto the shaft in the
direction shown on the decal (counter-
clockwise). T ighten until secure.
NOTE: The ret aining w asher must be posi-
tioned with th e rai sed secti on fa cing towa rd the
gearbox.
