Leveling the Deck (Side to Side)
Ifthe cuttingdeckappearsto bemowingunevenly,a side toside
adjustmentcan be performed.Adjustif necessaryas follows:
1. Withthe tractorparkedon a firm,levelsurface,placethe decklift
leverinthe topnotch(highestposition)and rotatebothbladesso
thattheyareperpendicularwiththe tractor.
2. Measurethe distancefromthe outsideofthe leftbladetip tothe
groundandthe distancefromtheoutsideof the rightbladetipto
theground.Bothmeasurementstakenshouldbeequal. Ifthey're
not,proceedto thenextstep.
3. Loosen,butdo NOTremove,the hexbolt onthe left deckhanger
bracket.See Figure24.

4. Usinga wrench,raiseor lowerthe leftsideof thedeck byturning
theadjustmentgear.SeeFigure24.
Thedeckis properlyleveledwhenbothbladetip measurements
takenearlierareequal. Retightenthe hexbolton the leftdeckhanger
bracketwhenproperadjustmentisachieved.
Parking Brake Adjustment
Ifthe tractordoesnot cometo a completestopwhenthe brakepedal
iscompletelydepressed,or ifthe tractor'srearwheelscan rollwiththe
parkingbrakeapplied(andthe hydrostaticreliefvalveopen),the brake
is in needof adjustment.Seea Searsor otherqualifiedservicedealer
to havethebrakeproperlyadjusted.
Adjusting the Seat
Referto theAssemblysectionof thismanualfor seatadjustment
instructions.
Beforeoperatingthetractor,makesuretheseatis engagedin the
seat-stop.Engagethe parkingbrake.Standbehindthemachineand
pullbackon seatuntilitclicksintoplace.
Steering Adjustment
Ifthe tractorturnstighterinonedirectionthanthe other,or if theball
jointsarebeingreplaceddueto damageorwear,the steeringdrag
linksmayneedto beadjusted.
Adjustthe draglinksso thatequallengthsof each arethreadedinto
the balljointonthe left sideandthe balljointon the rightside:
1. Removethe hexnut belowthe balljoint.SeeFigure25.

2. Threadthe balljointinwardto shortenthe draglink.Threadthe
balljoint outwardto lengthenthedraglink.
3. Replacethe hexnutafterproperadjustmentis achieved.
NOTE: Threadingtheballjointstoofar ontothe draglinkswillcause
the fronttiresto "toe-in"toofar. Propertoe-in is between1/16"and
5/16".
Fronttiretoe-incan be measuredas follows:

Placethesteeringwheelinpositionfor straightaheadtravel.
Infrontof the axle,measurethe distancehorizontallyfrom
the insideof the left rimto the insideof the rightrim.Notethe
distance.
3. Behindthe axle,measurethedistancehorizontallyfromthe inside
of theleft rimto the insideof the rightrim.Notethe distance.
4. The measurementtakenin frontof theaxle shouldbebetween
1/16"and5/16"lessthanthe measurementtakenbehindthe axle.
Hydrostatic Transmission
The hydrostatictransmissionis sealedatthefactoryandis mainte-
nance-free.The fluidlevelcannotbecheckedandthe fluidcannotbe
changed.
