Setting the Deck Gauge Wheels and Roller
Movethe tractoron a firmandlevelsurface,preferablypavement,and
proceedasfollows
1. Selectthe heightpositionof thecuttingdeck byplacingthedeck
lift leverinthe normallydesiredmowingheightsetting(anyofthe
elevendifferentcuttingheightnotcheson the rightfender).
2. Checkthe gaugewheelsforcontactor excessiveclearancewith
the surfacebelow.Thedeckgaugewheelsshouldhavebetween
l_-inchandY2-inchclearanceabovetheground.
Ifthe gaugewheelshaveexcessiveclearanceor contactwiththe
surface,adjustas follows:
a. Raisethe decklift handleto itshighestsetting.
b. Removethe frontgaugewheelsby removingthe locknuts
andshoulderscrewswhichsecurethemto thedeck.See
Figure5.
c. Placethedecklift leverinthedesiredmowingheightsetting.
d. Reinsertthe shoulderscrew(witheachgaugewheel)into
the indexholethatleavesapproximatelyY2-inchbetweenthe
bottomofthe wheelandthe pavement.
e. Removethe clevispins andhairpinclipsfromthedeck roller
bracketson the leftandright sidesof thecuttingdeck.See
Figure5.
f. Positionthedeck rollerbracketsup ordownthroughtheslots
onthe rearof the deckuntildesiredpositionisreached,then
reattachwiththe clevispinsand hairpinclipsjust removed.
Becertainthatthe leftrollerbracketandthe rightroller
bracketareset inthe sameposition.

of thismanualfor moredetailedinstructionsregardingvariousdeck
adjustments.

Gas and Oil
The fueltank islocatedunderthehoodand hasa capacityof two
andthree-quartersgallons.Removethefuel cap byturningitcounter-
clockwise.Useonly clean,fresh(nomorethan30 daysold), unleaded
gasoline.Fillthe tankno higherthanfour inchesbelowthetop of the
filler neckto allowspaceforfuelexpansion.
Useextremecarewhen handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremely
flammableandthevaporsare explosive.Neverfuel themachine
indoorsorwhilethe engineishotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesandothersourcesof ignition.
NOTE: Yourtractorisshippedwithoil inthe engine.However,you
MUSTcheckthe oillevelbeforeoperating.SeeCheckingthe Engine
Oil inthe Serviceand Maintenancesectionof thismanual.
Alwayscheckthe engineoil levelbeforeeach useasinstructedinthe
maintenancesectionof this manual.Addoil as necessary.Failureto
do so mayresultin seriousdamageto yourengine
