6. Loosen rocker arm jam nut. Use an 8 mm allen wrench
to turn pivot ball stud while checking clearance
between rocker arm and valve stem with a feeler gauge
(Figure 19). Correct clearance is 0.002-0.004 inch
(0.05-0.1mm).
NOTE:You must hold the rocker arm jam nut in place as
you turn the pivot ball stud.
7. When valve clearance is correct, hold pivot ball stud in
place with allen wrench and tighten rocker arm jam
nut to 175 inch-pounds torque (Figure 20).After
tightening jam nut, recheck valve clearance to make
sure it did not change.
8. Reattach the valve cover.
NOTE: Start all four screws before tightening or you will
not be able to get all the screws in place.
NOTE: Make sure the gasket between the valve cover and
cylinder head is in place.
9. Reattach the breather tube.
10. Reattach the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
Tighten Jam Nut to
175 inch–pounds
(19.7 N-m)
