INSTALLATION OF THE METAL
BLADE
W ARNING:
Wear protective g loves
when handling or performing maintenance on
the b lade to a void injury . The blade is sharp a nd
cancutyouevenwhenitisnotmoving.
W ARNING:
Do not use an y blades, or
fastening hardware other than the washers and
n ut s sho w n in th e following illu st ra tion s. Th ese
parts must be provided by Poulan/Weed Eater
and installed as shown below . Failure to use
proper parts can cau se the blade to fly off and
seriously hurt you or others.
NOTE:
The d ust cup and r etaining washer are
locate d onth e gearb ox shaft andnot inthe p arts
bag. All other fasteners mentioned in the follow-
in g assem bly ste ps a r e in th e par ts bag .
1. Remove the retaining washer from the
threadedshaft ofthe gearbox. Leavethe
dust cup on the shaft.
2. Install the bladeandthe retainingwasher
over the threaded shaft.
3. Make sure theraised part of theretaining
washer is facing the gearbox and the
raised area fits into the hole in the center
of the blade.
4. Slide the blade and retaining washer onto
the sh aft of the gearbox.
5. Place the cupped washer onto the shaft.
Make surethecupped side ofthewasher
is toward the blade.
6. Install the bladenutby threading ontot he
shaft counterclockwise.

NOTE:
Ma ke sur e all pa r ts a r e in pla ce as il-
lustrated , and th e bladeis sandwiched between
the dust cu p and t he retaining washer . There
should be no space between the blade and the
d ust cup or the reta ining w ashe r.
7. Align hole in dust cup with hole in side of
gearbox by rotating the blade.
8. Insert a small screwdriver into aligned
holes. This will keep theshaft from turn-
ing while tightening the blade nut.

9. TIghten b lade nutfirmly witha wrenchwhile
holding screwdriver in position.
10. Remove the screwdriver .
1 1. Turn blade by ha nd . If the blad e binds
againstthe sh ield, o r a ppearsto b euneven,
the blade is not centered, and you must re-
install.
NOTE:
To remove blade, insert screwdriver
into a ligned holes. Un thread the nut and re-
move parts. Be sure to store parts and instruc-
tions for future use.
