Operating
Your Lawn
WARNING
Do not mow on inclines
with a slope in excess
of 15 degrees (a rise
of approximately 2-1/2
feet every 10feet). The
tractor couldoverturn
and cause serious
injury.
To help avoid blade
contact or a thrown
object injury, keep
bystanders, helpers,
children and pets at
least75 feet from the
machine while it is in
operation. Stop ma=
chine if anyone enters
the area.
4. Tomovein reverse,placethe shiftleverinthe
REVERSEposition,checkthat theareabehindis
clearthenslowlydepressthedrivepedal.
Driving On Slopes
Refertothe SLOPEGAUGEon page3 tohelpdeter-
mineslopeswhereyoumayoperatethe tractorsafely.

Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirection
on slopes.
Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,or otherhidden
objects.Uneventerraincouldoverturnthe machine.
Tallgrasscanhideobstacles.
Avoidturnswhendrivingona slope.Ifa turnmust
be made,turn downtheslope.Turningupa slope
greatlyincreasesthechanceof a rollover.
Avoidstoppingwhendrivingupa slope.If it is
necessarytostopwhiledrivingup aslope,startup
smoothlyandcarefullyto reducethe possibilityof
flippingthe tractoroverbackward.
Setting The Cruise Control
1. Placethe shiftleverintheFORWARDposition,
thenslowlydepressthedrivepedaluntil thedesired
speedisachieved.
2. Lightlydepressthecruisecontrolbutton.
3. Whilecontinuingto holdthecruisebuttonin,liftyour
footfromthedrivepedal(youshouldfeelthecruise
latchengage).
Onceengaged,the cruisecontrolbuttonandthedrive
pedalwilllockinthe "down"position,andthe tractorwill
maintainthesameforwardspeed.
NOTE:Cruisecontrolcannotbe engagedatthe
tractor'sfastestgroundspeed.Iftheoperatorshould
attempttodoso,the tractorwillautomaticallydecelerate
tothe fastestoptimalmowinggroundspeed.
Disengagethecruisecontrolusingoneofthe following
methods:
1. Depressthe brakepedaltodisengagethecruise
controlandstopthetractor.
2. Lightlydepressthedrivepedal.
Tochangeto thereversedirectionwhenoperatingwith
cruisecontrol,depressthebrakepedalto disengagethe
cruisecontroland bringthe tractortoacompletestop.
Thenplacetheshift leverintheREVERSEpositionand
depressthedrivepedal.
Engaging the Blades
EngagingthePTO(BladeEngage)transferspowertothe
cuttingdeckor other(separatelyavailable)attachments.
Toengagetheblades,proceedasfollows:
1. Movethethrottlecontrollevertothe FAST(rabbit)
position.
Models with Manual PTO
2. a. Graspthe PTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit all
thewayforwardinto theengaged(ON)position.
Models with Electric PTO
b. PullthePTO(BladeEngage)knoboutwardintothe
engaged(ON)position.
3. Keepthethrottleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)position
forthe mostefficientuseofthecuttingdeckor other
(separatelyavailable)attachments
IMPORTANT:Theengine(onmodelswitha manualPTO)
orelectricPTOclutch(on modelswith anelectricPTO)
willautomaticallyshutoff ifthePTOis engagedwiththe
shiftleverinpositionfor reversetravelwiththeignition
keyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition.Referto Safety
InterlockSwitchesearlierinthissection.
Using the Deck Lift Lever
Toraisethecuttingdeck,movethe decklift levertothe
left,thenplaceit inthenotchbestsuitedforyourapplica-
tion.RefertoSettingThe CuttingHeightearlierinthis
section.
Mowing
