Makesurethelawnmower'sengineisoff.Removetheignitionkey
beforeremovingtheshippingbrace.
1. Locatetheshippingbrace,if present,foundon therightsideof
thecuttingdeck.SeeFigure1.

Whileholdingthedischargechutewithyourlefthand,removethe
shippingbracewithyourrighthandbygraspingit betweenyour
thumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
Attaching the Battery Cables
NOTE:ThepositivebatteryterminalismarkedPos.(+).Thenegative
batteryterminalismarkedNeg.(-).
Thepositivecable(heavyredwire)issecuredtothe positivebattery
terminal(+)witha hex boltandhex nutat thefactory.
Thenegativecable(heavyblackwire)maybe securedtothenegative
batteryterminalatthefactory.If ithasn'tbeenattached,proceedas
follows:

Removethecarriageboltandhexnutfromthepositivecable
(heavyredwire).
Removetheredplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthepositivebattery
terminalandattachthepositivecabletothepositivebattery
terminal(+)withthe boltandhexnut.See Figure2.

securingit inplaceandmakecertainthattheredrubberbootcov-
ersthepositivebatteryterminaltohelpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE:Ifthe batteryis putintoserviceafterthedateshown
on top/sided battery,chargethebatteryasinstructedinthe
Maintenancesectionof thismanualpriortooperatingthemower.
Theshippingbraceisusedforpackagingpurposesonly.Remove
anddiscardtheshippingbracebeforeoperatingyourlawnmower.
