CUTTING BLADES
Shuttheengineoffand removeignitionkeybeforeremovingthe
cuttingblade(s)forsharpeningor replacement.Protectyourhands
usingheavygloveswhengraspingtheblade.
Periodicallyinspectthebladeand/orspindleforcracksor damage,
especiallyafter you'vestrucka foreignobject.Donotoperatethe
machineuntil damagedcomponentsare replaced.
Toremovetheblades,proceedasfollows.
1. Removethedeckfrombeneaththemower,(referto CuttingDeck
Removalearlierinthis section)thengentlyflipthedeckoverto
exposeitsunderside.
2. Placea blockofwood betweenthe centerdeckhousingbaffle
andthecuttingbladetoact asa stabilizer.SeeFigure27.

Removethe hexflangenutthatsecuresthe bladetothespindle
assembly.SeeFigure27.

Toproperlysharpenthecuttingblades,removeequalamounts
of metalfrombothendsofthebladesalongthecuttingedges,
paralleltothetrailingedge,ata 250.to300angle.Alwaysgrind
eachcuttingbladeedgeequallytomaintainproperbladebalance.

Ifthecuttingedgeof thebladehaspreviouslybeensharpened,or if
anymetalseparationispresent,replacethebladeswithnewones.
A poorlybalancedbladewillcauseexcessivevibration,maydamage
tothemowerand/orresultin personalinjury.

5. Testtheblade'sbalanceusinga bladebalancer.Grindmetalfrom
theheavyend untilthebladebalancesevenly.
NOTE:Whenreplacingtheblade,be suretoinstallthebladewiththe
sideoftheblademarked"Bottom"(orwitha partnumberstampedin
it) facingthegroundwhenthemoweris intheoperatingposition.
Usea torquewrenchtotightenthebladespindlehexflangenutto
between70Ibs-ftand90 Ibs-ft.
Thecuttingbladesmust be installedperpendiculartoeachother.If
thebladescannotbeinstalledperpendicularto eachother,theblade
timingbeltmustbereset.SeeyourSearsorotherqualifiedservice
dealerto havethedecktimingbeltreset.
