Be sureto shutthe engineoffanddisconnectthesparkplugwire
andgroundagainstthe enginetopreventunintendedstartingbefore
removingthe cuttingblade(s)for sharpeningor replacement,Protect
your handsbyusingheavyglovesor a ragto graspthecuttingblade,
Periodicallyinspectthe bladespindlesforcracksor damage,espe=
ciallyif youstrikea foreignobiect,Replaceimmediatelyif damaged,
Mowerbladesaresharp,Whenworkingnearblades,wearheavy
leatherglovesor wrapbladesinthickragstoprotectyourselffrom
thesharpedges,
Blade Removal
1, Removethedeckfrombeneaththe mowerandgentlyflip the
deckoverto exposeits underside,Referto "RemovingtheMower
Deck"for instructions,
2, Placea 2x4blockofwoodapproximately8,5" longbetweenthe
deckhousingandthe cuttingbladeto act as astabilizer,

3, Removethe hexflangenutthat securesthebladeto the spindle
assembly,Figure20,
Bmade Sharpening
IMPORTANT:Ifany metalseparationispresent,replacethe blades
withnewones,
1, Toproperlysharpenthe cutting blades,removeequalamounts
of metalfrombothends ofthebladesalongthe cuttingedges,
parallelto thetrailingedge,ata 25° to30° angle,Figure21,
a, It is importantthateachcuttingbladeedgebeground
equallyto maintainproperbladebalance,A poorlybalanced
bladewill causeexcessivevibrationand maycausedamage
to themowerandresultin personaliniury,Thebladecanbe
testedby balancingit on a roundshaft screwdriver,Grind
metalfromthe heavysideuntilit balancesevenly,
Blade Installation
1, Wheninstallinga blade,placethe sideof the bladewitha part
numberstampedin it facingthegroundwhenthe moweris in the
operatingposition,
2, Useatorquewrenchto tightenthe spindleflangenutto between
70=90foot=pounds,
