Spark Plug
1. Cleanareaaroundthe sparkplugbase.Do not sandblastspark
plug.Sparkplugshouldbecleanedby scrapingorwire brushing
andwashingwitha commercialsolvent
2. Removeand inspectthe sparkplug.Checkgapto makesureit is
setat .030".SeeFigure13.
3. Replacethesparkplug(Champion®RC12YC)oncea season.
Muffler
Temperatureof mufflerandnearbyengineareasmayexceed150° F
(65°C).Avoidcontactwiththeseareas.
Inspectmufflerperiodically,and replaceifnecessary.Replace-
mentpartsfor the mufflermustbethe sameand installedinthe

samepositionasthe originalparts.
Clean Engine
Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeofany combustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
Enginepartsshouldbe keptcleanto reducetheriskof overheat-
ingandignitionofaccumulateddebris.
Do notusewaterto cleanengineparts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
system.Usea brushordry cloth.
Carburetor Adjustment
Thecarburetoronthis engineisnotadjustable.
LUBRICATION
Beforelubricating,repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO
(BladeEngageLever),moveshiftleverintoneutralposition,set
parkingbrake,stopengineandremovekeyto preventunintended
starting.

Lubricateall the pivotpointsonthe drivesystem,parkingbrakeandlift
linkageatleastoncea seasonwith lightoil.
Rear Wheels
The rearwheelsshouldberemovedfromtheaxlesonceaseason.
Lubricatethe axlesandthe rimswellwithan all-purposegreasebefore
re-installingthem.
Front Axles
Eachendof thetractor'sfrontpivotbarmaybeequippedwitha grease
fitting.Lubricatewitha greasegunafterevery25hoursof tractor
operation.
Battery
The batteryissealedand is maintenance-free.Acidlevelscannotbe
checked.
Alwayskeepthe batterycablesandterminalscleanandfree of
corrosivebuild-up.
Aftercleaningthe batteryandterminals,applya lightcoatof
petroleumjellyorgreasetobothterminals.
Alwayskeepthe rubberbootpositionedoverthe positiveterminal
to preventshorting.
iMPORTANT: Ifremovingthebatteryfor any reason,disconnectthe
NEGATIVE(Black)wirefromitsterminalfirst,followedby the POSI-
TIVE(Red)wire.Whenre-installingthe battery,alwaysconnectthe
POSITIVE(Red)wiretoits terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE
(Black)wire.Becertainthatthe wiresareconnectedto the correct
