STARTING THE ENGINE
Do notoperatethe tractorifthe interlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedforyoursafetyandprotection.
NOTE: Referto theGasolineand Oilfill-upinstructionsearlierinthis
section.
1. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.
2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethechokecontrolby movingthethrottle/chokeleverall
thewayup intothechokeposition.
5. Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwiseto the STARTposition.Afterthe
enginestarts,releasethe key.It will returnto theON(orNormal
Mowing)position.
Do NOTholdthe keyinthe STARTpositionfor longerthanten
secondsat a time.Doingsomaycausedamageto yourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethe chokecontroland placethe
throttlecontrolinthe FASTposition.
NOTE: Do NOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthe tractor.
Doingsowill resultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausethe engineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
If youstrikea foreignobject,stopthe engine,disconnectthespark
plugwire(s)andgroundagainstthe engine.Thoroughlyinspectthe
machineforanydamage.Repairthe damagebeforerestartingand
operating
1. Ifthe bladesareengaged,placethePTO(BladeEngage)leverin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwiseto theSTOPposition.
3. Removethe keyfromthe ignitionswitchto preventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedandsuddenstops.
Do notleavethe seatof thetractorwithoutfirstplacingthePTO
(BladeEngage)leverinthe disengaged(OFF)position,depressing
I thebrakepedalandengagingtheparkingbrake.Ifleavingthe tractor
unattended,alsoturnthe ignitionkeyoffand removethe key.

2. Movethethrottleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
3. Placethe shiftleverineitherthe FORWARDor REVERSE
position.
IMPORTANT: Do NOTusetheshiftlevertochangethedirection
of travelwhenthe tractorisin motion.Alwaysusethebrakepedalto
bringthe tractorto acompletestopbeforeshifting.
4. Releasetheparkingbrakeby depressingthe clutch-brakepedal
and positioningthe speedcontrolleverin desiredposition.
IMPORTANT: First-timeoperatorsshouldusespeedpositions1 or
2. Becomecompletelyfamiliarwiththetractor'soperationandcontrols
beforeoperatingthetractorinhigherspeedpositions.
5. Releaseclutch-brakepedalslowlyto putunitinto motion.
6. The lawntractorisbroughtto a stopby depressingtheclutch-
brakepedal.
NOTE: Whenoperatingthe unitinitially,therewillbelittledifference
betweenthe highesttwospeedsuntilafterthe beltshaveseated
themselvesintothe pulleysduringthe break-inperiod.
Beforeleavingthe operator'spositionfor anyreason,disengagethe
blades,placetheshift leverinneutral,engagethe parkingbrake,
shutengineoff andremovethe key.
IMPORTANT: Whenstoppingthetractorforanyreasonwhile ona
grasssurface,always:
1. Placethe shiftleverinneutral,
2. Engagetheparkingbrake,
3. Shutengineoffand removethe key.Doingso will minimizethe
possibilityof havingyourlawn"browned"byhot exhaustfrom
yourtractor'srunningengine.
Ifunitstallswithspeedcontrolinhighspeed,orif unitwillnot operate
withspeedcontrolleverin a lowspeedposition,proceedas follows:
1. Placeshift leverinNEUTRAL.
2. Restartengine.
3. Placespeedcontrolleverinhighestspeedposition.
4. Releaseclutch-brakepedalfully.
5. Depressclutch-brakepedal.
6. Placespeedcontrolleverindesiredposition.
7. Placeshiftlever ineither FORWARDor REVERSE,andfollow
normal operatingprocedures.
Alwayslookdownandbehindbeforeandwhilebackingupto avoida
back-overaccident.
