Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknowntothe Stateof Californiato
causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthePOSITIVE(Red)
wiretoits terminalfirst,followedby the NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthave
beenleftdisconnectedfromthe terminalsat thefactory.Toconnect
the batterycables,proceedas follows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPos.(+).Thenegative
batteryterminalis markedNeg.(-).
1. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe positivebattery
terminaland attachthe redcableto the positivebatteryterminal
(+)withthe boltandhexnut.See Figure1.
2. Removethe plasticcover,if present,fromthe negativebattery
terminaland attachthe blackcabletothe negativebattery
terminal(-) withthe boltandhex nut.SeeFigure1.

Shipping Brace Removal
Makesuretheridingmower'sengineis off,removetheignitionkey,
andset the parkingbrakebeforeremovingtheshippingbrace.Refer
Itothe Operationsectionfor instructionsonhowto setthe parking
lbrake.
• Locatethe shippingbrace,if present,andaccompanyingwarning
tag foundonthe rightsideof the mower,betweenthe discharge
chutedeflectorandthe cuttingdeck. SeeFig.2.

Placethe decklift leverinthe highestcuttingposition.Referto
SettingtheCuttingHeightin the Operationsectionofthismanual.
Whilepushingthedischargechuteddlectortowardsthemachinewith
yourlefthand,removetheshippingbracewithyourrighthandbygrasp-
ingitbetweenyourthumbandindexfingerandrotatingitclockwise.
The shippingbrace,usedforpackagingpurposesonly,mustbe
removedand discardedbeforeoperatingyour ridingmower.
The mowingdeck iscapableofthrowingobjects.Failureto operate
the ridingmowerwithoutthedischargecoverin theproperoperating
Ipositioncould resultin seriouspersonalinjuryand/orproperty
ldamage.
Attaching The Steering Wheel
Ifthesteeringwheelfor yourtractordid notcomeattached,the
hardwarefor attachingit has beenpackedwithinthe steeringwheel,
beneaththe steeringwheelcap.Carefullypryoff the steeringwheel
cap andremovethe hardware.
1. Withthe wheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethe
steeringwheeloverthe steeringshaft.
2. Placethe washer(withthecuppedsidedown)overthesteering
wheeland securewiththe hexbolt.SeeFig.3.
