HOW TO START YOUR UNIT
WARNING:
The blade or trimmer
head will turn while starting the engine. Avoid
any contact with the muffler. A hot muffler can
cause serious burns .
NOTE:
A special feature called the “throttle
lock” hol ds the throttle trigger i n the depressed
position during starting.
1. Lock throttle trigger into the starting post-
ion by first pressing the lock--out lever on
the top of the control handle. While the
lock--out lever is depressed, squeeze and
hold the throttle trigger.

2. Before releasing the throttle trigger, press
the lock button. While this button is still de-
pressed release the throttle trigger.
NOTE:
This should allow the throttle tr igger
to remain in the depressed position for s tart-
ing. You may want to practice t his a few times
before you first start the unit.
3. DO NOT squeeze throttle trigger during
starting; otherwise, it will be necessary t o
reset the throttle lock.
COLD ENGINE STARTING (or warm
engine after running out of fuel)
1. Rest engine and shield on ground, sup-
porting trimmer head off ground.
2. Move the ON/OFF switch to the ON posi-
tion.
3. Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times.
4. Movethechokelever tothe FULLCHOKE
position.

5. Set the throttle trigger in the starting position
using the throttle lock feature. Keep throttle
trigger in the starting position until engine
runs smoothly.
6. Pull starter rope handle sharply until en-
gine sounds as if it is trying to start, but do
not pull rope more t han 6 times.
7. As soon as engine sounds as if it is trying
to start, move choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
8. Pull starter rope sharply unt il engine runs,
but no more than 6 pulls. If the engine
doesn’t start after 6 pulls (at the HALF
CH OKE posi tion), move the choke lever to
the FULL CHOKE position and press the
primer bulb 6 times. S queeze and hold t he
throttle trigger and pull the starter rope 2
more times. Move the c h o k e leve r to the
HALF CHOKE position and pull the starter
rope until the engine runs, but no morethan
6pulls.
NOTE:
If engine still doesn’t start,
it i s probably flooded. Pr oceed to ST ART-
ING A FLOODED ENGINE.
9. Once the engine starts, allowit to run 10se-
conds, then move the choke lever to the
OFF CHOKE position. Allow the unit to run
for30 mor esecondsat OFFCHO KEbefore
releasing the throttle trigger fromthe starting
position. Release the throttle lock by
squeezing and r eleasing the throttle trigger.
NOTE:
If engi ne dies with t he choke l ever
in the OFF C H OKE position, m ove the
choke lever t o the HALF C H O KE position
and pull the rope until engine runs, but no
more than 6 pulls.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
1. Move the choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
2. Set the throttle trigger i n the starting posi-
tion using the throttle lock feature. Keep
throttle trigger in the starting position until
engine runs smoothly.
3. Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs,
but no more than 5 pulls.
4. Allow engine to run 15 seconds, then
move the choke lever to the OFF CHOKE
position.
NOTE:
If engine has not started, pull starter
rope 5morepulls. If engine still does not run, it
is probably flooded.
STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE
Flooded engines can be s tar ted by placing the
choke l ever in the OFF CHOKE posi tion; then,
pull the rope to clear the engi ne of excess fuel.
This could require pulling the starter handle
many times depending on how badly the unit is
flooded.

When operat ing unit, clip shoulder strap onto
clamp, stand as shown and check for the fol-
lowing:

Wear eye protection and heavy clothing.

Extend yourleft armandhold handlebar grip
with your left hand.
