RTING POSITION
WARNING: When starting e ngine,
hold the unit a s illustrated. Donot set unit onany
surface except a clean, hard area when starting
engine or while engine is running. Debris such
as gravel, sand, dust, grass, etc. could be
picked up by the air intake and thrown out
through the discharge opening, damaging the
unit or property , o r causing serious inj ury to by-
standers or the operator .

STARTING A C OLD ENGI NE
1. Move throttle lever to the position.
2. Move choke lever to the FULL CHOKE
position.
3. Slowly press t he primer button 8 times.

4. Pull starter rope sharply until engine at-
tempts torun, butnomorethan5 pulls(be-
low 30_ F, 8 pulls).
NOTE: If engine attempts tostart before the
5
th
pull, go to next s tep immediately.
5. Move the choke lever to the HALF
CHOKE position.
6. Pull the starter rope sharply until the en-
gine runs, but no more than 5 pulls (be low
30_ F, 10 pulls).
7. After a 5 second warm--up, move the
choke lever to t he RUN position.
8. Allow the unit t o run f or 30 more seconds
at the R UN position before moving the
throttle lever to
position.
If engine has no t started after 5 pulls (at HALF
CHOKE), repeatST ARTI NG A COLDENGINE
procedure. I f engine still does not s tart, proceed
to STAR TING A FLOODED ENGINE.
9. To stop th e engi ne, m ove thethrottle lever to
the ST OP position.
STARTING A WARM ENGINE
NOTE:
If fuel tank is empty, add fuel; then,
follow STARTING A COLD ENGINE proce-
dure. D o not fill fuel tank while engine is hot.
1. Move throttle lever to the
position.
2. Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs,
but no mo re than 5 pulls.
NOTE: If engine has not started, pullstarter
rope 5 m ore pulls. If engine still does not run,
it is probably flooded.
3. To stop t he engine, move the throttle lever to
the ST OP position.
STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE
Flooded engines can be started by placing the
choke lever in the RUN position. Move throttle
le ve r t o the f a st posit ion
; then, pull rope
until engine starts. After engine starts, move the
throttle le ver to the slow position
to allow
engine to idle .
Starting could r equire pul ling the starter rope
many times depe nding on how bad ly the uni t is
flooded.
