III. SERVICE
1. Useextremecarein handlinggasolineandotherfuels. They
areextremelyflammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
a. Storefuel andoil in approvedcontainers,awayfrom heat
andopenflame,andout of the reachof children. Check
andaddfuel beforestartingtheengine.Neverremovegas
capor addfuelwhilethe engineisrunning. Allowengine
to coolatleasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
b. Replacegasolinecap securelyand wipe off any spilled
gasolinebeforestartingthe engineasit maycausea fire
orexplosion.
c. Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesand othersources
ofignition.
d. Neverrefuelunit indoors becauseflammablevaporswill
accumulateinthearea.
e. Neverstore the machineor fuel containerinsidewhere
thereis an openflameor sparksuch asa gashot water
heater,spaceheater,clothesdryerorfurnace.
2. Neverrun your machinein an enclosedareaasthe exhaust
from theenginecontainscarbonmonoxide,whichis anodor-
less,tastelessanddeadlypoisonousgas.
3. To reducefire hazard,keepengineandmufflerfree of leaves,
grass,andotherdebrisbuild-up. Cleanupfuelandoil spillage.
Allowunittocoolat least5 minutesbeforestoring.
4, Beforecleaning, repairing, or inspecting, makecertain the
impellerandall moving partshavestopped. Disconnectthe
sparkplugwire andkeepwire awayfrom sparkplugto prevent
accidentalstarting. Donot useflammablesolutionsto clean
air filter.
5. Checkthebladeandenginemountingscrewsatfrequentinter-
valsfor propertightness.Alsovisuallyinspectbladesfor wear
and!or damage(e.g., bent, cracked). Replacewith blades
whichmeetoriginalequipmentspecifications.
6. Keepall nuts,bolts,andscrewstight to besurethe equipment
isin safeworkingcondition.
7. Nevertamperwith safetydevices. Checktheirproperopera-
tion regularly.
8. After strikinga foreignobject, immediatelystopthe engine,
disconnectthesparkplugwire from the sparkplug,andthor-
oughlyinspecttheunitfor anydamage.Repairdamagebefore
startingandoperatingunit.
9. Donot alterortamperwith theengine'sgovernorsetting. The
governorcontrolsthe maximumsafe operatingspeedof the
engine.Over-speedingtheengineis dangerousandwill cause
damageto the engine and to other moving parts of the
machine.
