TROUBLE SHOOTING
PROBLEM CORRECTIVE ACTION
Engine fails to start • Fill tank with clean, fresh fuel.
• Connect wire to spark plug.
• Follow priming instructions in operation section.
• Move throttle control to FAST position.
Loss of power;

POSSIBLE CAUSE(S)
• Fuel tank empty, or stale fuel.
• Spark plug wire disconnected.
• Engine not primed correctly.
• Throttle control not in correct
starting position.
• Faulty spark plug.
• Spark plug wire Joose.
• Blocked fuel line or stale fue!.
• Water or dirt in fuel system.
• Carburetor out of adjustment.
• Dirty air cleaner. •
Engine overheats • Carburetor not adjusted • Contact your SEARS Service Center.

• Engine oil level low. • Fill crankcase with proper oil.
Too much vibration • Loose parts or damaged • Stop engine immediately and disconnect
impeller, spark plug wire. Tighten all bolts and nuts.
Make all necessary repairs. Ifvibration continues,
have unit serviced by a SEARS Service Center.
Unit does not • Discharge chute clogged. • Stop engine immediately and disconnect
discharge spark plug wire. Clean flail screen and inside
of blower housing. See Service/Adjustments
section of this manual.
• Foreign object lodged in impeller. • Stop engine immediately and disconnect
spark plug wire. Remove lodged object.
Rate of discharge • Shredding blade and/or chipper • Sharpen or replace shredding and chipper
slows considerably or blades dull. blades.

HOW TO ORDER REPLACEMENT PARTS
• Clean, adjust gap or replace.
• Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
• Clean fuel line; fill tank with clean fresh gasoline.
• Disconnect fuel line at carburetor to drain fuel
tank. Refill with fresh fuel.
• Adjust carburetor or contact your SEARS
Service Center.

section of this manual.
Each chipper-shredder has its own model number.
Each engine has its own model number.
The model number for your chipper-shredder will be
found on a label attached to the frame.
The model number for the engine will be found on the
blower housing of the engine.
All parts listed herein may be ordered through Sears,
Roebuck and Co. Service Centers and most Retail
Stores.
