The bladecontrolhandleisa safetydevice.Never
attempttobypassitsoperation.Doingsomakes
the safetydeviceinoperativeand mayresultin
personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe rotating
blade.The bladecontrolhandlemustoperate
easilyin bothdirectionsandautomaticallyreturn
to thedisengagedpositionwhenreleased.
Neveroperatethe mowerinwetgrass.Alwaysbe
sureofyour footing. A slipandfallcan cause
sedouspersonalinjury. Keep a firm holdonthe
handleand walk,never run.Ifyoufeelyouare
losingyourfooting,RELEASETHE BLADE
CONTROLHANDLE IMMEDIATLEY andthe
bladewillstoprotatingwithinthreeseconds.
Mowonlyindaylightor goodartificiallight.
Stopthebladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walks
or roads.
Ifthe equipmentshouldstarttovibrate
abnormally,stopthe engineandcheck
immediatelyforthecause.Vibrationisgenerallya
warningoftrouble.
Shuttheengineoffandwaituntilthe bladecomes
toa completestopbeforeremovingthegrass
catcheroruncloggingthe chute.The cutting
blade continues to rotatefora few seconds alter
theengineisshutoff.Never placeanypartofthe
bodyinthe bladearea untilyouaresurethe blade
hasstoppedrotating.
Neveroperatemowerwithoutproperguards,
grasscatcher,platesorothersafetyprotective
devicesin place.
Mufflerandenginebecomehotand cancause a
bum.Do not touch.
Donotadjustthethrottlecontrolwiththe engine
running.

Slope Operation
Foryoursafety,usethe slopegaugeincludedaspartof
thismanualtomeasureslopesbeforeoperatingthisuniton
a slopeorhillyarea.Ifthe slopeisgreaterthan15 degrees
asshownontheelopegauge(page6),do notoperatethis
uniton thatareaorseriousinjurycouldresult.
DO:
Mowacrosstheface ofslopes;neverupand
down.Exercise extremecaution whenchanging
directiononslopes.
Watchfor holes,ruts,hiddenobjects,or bumps.
Taggrasscan hideobstacles.
Alwaysbesureofyourfooting. A slipandfall can
cause seriouspersonalinjury. (fyoufeel youare
losingyourbalancereleasethe bladecontrol
handleimmediatelyand the bladewillstopinless
than3 seconds.
ON MODELSWiTH CASTER WHEELS: Lock
bothfront wheelsso theydonotpivotwhile
mowingon theface ofslopes.To turnthemower,
depressthehandleand raisethefront wheels
s(ightiy.
DO NOT:
Donotmownear drop-offs, ditchesor
embankments.The operatorcouldlosefootingor
balance.
Donotmow slopesgreaterthan 15degreesas
shownontheslopegauge.
Do notmowonwet grass.Reducedfooting could
causeslipping.
ON MOWERS WITH CASTER WHEELS: Do Not
mow onslopeswithcasters unlockedsincethe
mowerhasa tendencyto driftdownhill.
Children
Tragicaccidentscanoccurifthe operatorisnotalerttothe
presenceofchildren.Childrenareoftenattractedto the
mowerandthe mowingactivity.Neverassumethat
childrenwillremainwhereyoulastsawthem.
Keepchildrenoutofthe mowingarea and under
thewatchfulcareof a responsibleadultotherthan
theoperator.
Bealertand turnmoweroffifa childentersthe
area.
Beforeandwhilemovingrpackwards,lookbehind
