CAUTION:
Avoid damage to the outboard. DO NOT attempt to
operate the outboard outside of the parameters set for
this motor. See list under General Specification. Any
failure or damage due to such operation is NOT covered
under the Briggs & Stratton limited warranty.
Use caution when installing the outboard to the
transom on the boat, severe amputation or
laceration may occur.
DO NOT place your hands or feet between the
transom bracket and the boat transom when
installin g or tilting th e outboard.
DO NOT wear loose Ćfittin g clothing, dangling
drawstrings or items wh ich could becom e caught.
Stop the mo to r an d remove sa fe ty lanyard fro m
SAFETY/MOTOR STOP sw itch before tilting.
DO NO T transport th e boat with the outboard in the
UP position .
WARNING
Battery gas can explode.
Keep sparks and flames awa y from batteries.
Never pla ce a metal object across batte ry po sts. To
check for charge use a voltmeter or hydrometer.
Use on ly Coast Guard Approved battery boxes
strapped firmly to your boat.
Transport with ba tterie s disconnected fro m outĆ
board.
Follo w battery manufacturer's instructio n s and
heed warnings.
WARNING
Electrocution or serious injury can occur if
proper precautions are not followed. Batteries
develop extremely high currents.
Risk of Electrical Shock. DO NOT touch
unĆin su la te d battery terminals, connectors, or
wires.
Remove all jewe lry (watches, rings, bracelets,
etc.) when working on the batte rie s or electrical
systems.
Prior to wiring the batteries, en su re that the battery
harness is unplugged from th e outboard.
Use 6 gauge wire or larger for batte ry harness and
all wirin g between batterie s.
The batteries must be wired in series to provide 48
volts. Improper wiring of batte rie s could cause
batteries to explode.
Keep wire connections to the batteries tight,
main ta in ing good contact with the battery
termin a ls.
Do not disasse m b le the motor. Voltage and output
have been preĆse t by the factory. Any tampering
with mo tor se ttin g s may cause serious damage to
the mo to r and/or serious inju ry.
WARNING
The boat and all occupants may capsize if
motor is improperly installed or operated.
When dete rm in ing conformity to boat weight
limitatio n s, take into account the weight of th e
outboard AN D ba tte ry pa ck.
Capacity of boat should be sufficient to handle
weight of motor, batteries, occupants and occuĆ
pants belongings.
Follo w the boat manufacturer's recommendations
to install the outboard to th e boat.
The capacity plate on th e boat shows th e maximu m
horsepower allo w a ble for your boat. DO NOT
exceed this limit.
DO NOT operate the boat until the outboard has
been properly installed.
DO NOT attempt to adjust the trim angle while the
outboard is running.
WARNING
Use the safety lanyard to reduce the possibility
of a running boat causing serious injury or
death should the operator fall overboard.
The safety lanyard clip MUST be properly
connected to th e SAFETY/MOTOR STOP switch
on the outboard AND safety lanyard snap must be
attached to the operator BEFORE using the
outboard.
Check the function of the SAFETY/MOTOR STOP
switch before each boating day by starting the
outboard and removing the sa fe ty lanyard from th e
switch. The outboard should then sto p operation.
DO NOT leave the operator's station with the safe ty
lanyard still connected to the outboard.
Always stop the outboard before leaving the
operator's station of the boat.
WARNING
Boats can become unstable when engaging
forward or reverse or when changing direction.
The result could be slipping or falling within the
boat or overboard.
Every pe rso n on board must wear and use a U.S.
Coast Guard approved Personal Floatation De vice
(PFD ).
Operate the boat with occupants and the operator
safely seated.
DO NOT stand or make sudden changes in
directio n while the boat is in motion.
DO NOT operate while under the influence of
medication or alcohol.
Any pe rson operating the boat MUST have full
knowledge of the operation and handling of the
motor an d boat.
Always operate the outboard with th e safety lanyard
clipped to the SAFETY/MOTOR STOP SWITCH
and attache d to the operator.
WARNING
Rotating parts can contact or entangle hands,
feet, hair, clothing, or accessories.
Traumatic amputation or severe laceration can
result.
Avoid contact with propeller. Keep people and pets
away from propeller while the outboard is
operating.
DO NOT run the outboard out of the water.
Operate equipment with guards in place. The
cylindrical component surrounding the propeller
offers NO protection from a moving propeller. It is
meant for thrust enhancement ONLY.
Keep hands and feet away from rota tin g parts. Tie
up long hair and remove jewe lry. DO NOT wear
loose Ćfittin g clothing, dangling drawstrings or item s
that could become caught.
Keep lines, rigging and other equipment inside the
boat.
WARNING
Unintentional startĆup can result in electrocuĆ
tion, sparking, entanglement, traumatic amĆ
putation, or laceration.
Disconnect the safe ty lanyard from the SAFETY/
MOTOR STOP SWITCH.
ALWAYS remove batte ry harness from the
outboard po we r receptacle.
WARNING
BEFORE PERFORMING ADJUSTMENTS
OR REPAIRS
